Eddie Howe’s first day as Newcastle United manager has gone down a storm with Toon fans.

Things got off to a great start when supporters swooned over the news that the 43-year-old arrived at the training ground at 6.45am.

It would get even better when Howe started working with the players. The club released a video on YouTube of clips from the first training session, with fans getting an insight into how the new manager operates.

It was really interesting to see, and hopefully the club release more clips just like they did yesterday – without giving away our new tactical plans of course.

“It’s not a criticism, it’s just a different type of training”. That line stuck out from Howe, as he looks to rejuvenate a group of players that are devoid of confidence.

Bleep test for struggling Newcastle players

According to the Daily Mail, the first thing Howe did with his players was put them through the bleep test.

Fitness has clearly been an issue this season. We’ve played well in patches, starting like a house on fire against West Ham and Tottenham. But that fire was quickly extinguished as energy levels dropped.

It’s essential that Howe makes the squad fitter, and he is clearly working towards that already.

We need to play with greater intensity, which is how Howe likes to play his football.

It would be very interesting to see how everyone performed in the bleep test. You’d imagine that Isaac Hayden would have been one of the players to last the longest.

The report adds that the squad responded well to Howe’s first session. This is great news, and hopefully we will see a new look Newcastle team on November 20th against Brentford.
