Joelinton will be hoping the arrival of Eddie Howe changes his fortunes at Newcastle United.

The Brazilian has struggled ever since his big money move in 2019. In an instant he became Newcastle’s record signing at £40million and was given the club’s most famous shirt – the number nine. No pressure kid…

And the pressure was too much. As time went by, it became clear that Joelinton wasn’t a goalscorer. Steve Bruce ended up saying as much to the press.

Alan Shearer recently said he feels sorry for Joelinton for the pressure he was put under.

It’s still not clear what Joelinton’s best position is. However, he’s had a lot more joy this season when he’s been operating out wide.

Even when Callum Wilson was injured, it was Allan Saint-Maximin who started up front while Joelinton played on the left.

We’re still yet to see the best from the 25-year-old, who struggled for consistency under Bruce. But could things change under Howe?

Joelinton working with fitness coach and analyst

According to the Chronicle, Joelinton is putting in extra effort away from training to improve his Newcastle fortunes.

They report that he is working with a fitness coach and an analyst to try and improve his game away from the training ground.

That shows how committed Joelinton is to improving. It shows real drive to get better.

Hopefully that work ethic is recognised by Howe, and he can give Joelinton the opportunities to prove himself in the coming weeks.

It’s unclear how we will line-up under Howe. Shape, personnel – it is all up in the air right now.

But Joelinton will be hoping to start, whether that’s out wide or supporting Wilson through the middle.

The combination of a new manager and the extra work he’s putting in could be what gives Joelinton the lift ne needs at Newcastle.
