Newcastle United are going to be the subject of a new Amazon documentary in the near future, despite Eddie Howe’s desire to avoid the cameras.
Toon co-owner Amanda Staveley recently confirmed that a documentary is in the works, as fans brace themselves for an in-depth look at what is going on behind the scenes at St James’ Park.
Given how much has changed over the past year and a half, it should be a fantastic watch. The club is unrecognisable, and this series should highlight the changes made and the effort that has gone in to move Newcastle United away from the doldrums of the Mike Ashley era.
According to the Athletic, Howe was not massively keen on the idea of a documentary about his team’s recent upturn in fortunes. However, he does appreciate the commercial benefit it could have.
And that is why a compromise appears to have been reached.

Newcastle Amazon documentary will not focus on football
In a new article from the Athletic, they state that the Amazon documentary will focus on the commercial side of the club rather than the football.
Obviously the two go hand in hand, but it doesn’t sound like we will be getting a deep dive into what the manager does in training or what Sean Longstaff has for breakfast.
The Athletic state that this decision was made due to the concerns raised by Howe.
Good decision by Newcastle
With the direction of the documentary now clearer, it looks like Newcastle United are getting the best of both worlds.
Howe won’t have to deal with the distraction of cameras wanting to know every detail about his methods and what his players are up to. But they will be following Staveley and co, and peeling back the curtain on what is going on behind the scenes at St James’ Park.
It looks like an ideal compromise from the club. There will still be the commercial benefit and financial fair play boost from the series, without hindering Howe’s ability to manage the team.
