Eddie Howe not keen on Newcastle Amazon documentary

When Eddie Howe was first appointed Newcastle manager, there were dissenting voices.

Perhaps not so much from the club’s own supporters, but from those expecting the owners to go down the Hollywood route. Granted, Unai Emery was supposed to arrive, but even he hardly strikes as the most media-hungry of coaches.

In fact, the whole approach the owners have undertaken strays far from the idea that they would simply pump huge money into faded superstars. So far, everything has been planned out nicely.

Still, there is at some point going to be a need to go ‘big time’.

Newcastle planning for Amazon documentary – but Howe isn’t keen

Indeed, director Amanda Staveley this week confirmed the club would be subject to an Amazon ‘All or Nothing’ documentary, much as Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham have done previously.

The Athletic, however, claim Howe is not particularly keen on the idea of allowing access inside his dressing room. Certainly, the former Bournemouth coach does not appear to be a man who covets publicity.

Amazon documentary could be a necessary evil

While access behind the scenes might not exactly be something Howe feels comfortable with, it could still be a necessary evil for the club.

The report suggests the money received for the documentary could help Newcastle’s Financial Fair Play (FFP) situation, something Howe is believed to accept.

Given the balance act need to comply with FFP guidelines all while strengthening the squad in order to get it into a position to truly compete, it feels like a fair trade-off.
