Report: No ‘active negotiations’ between Newcastle owners PIF and Inter Milan

Newcastle United owners PIF have been linked with buying Inter Milan for a long time, as they look to build a footballing portfolio.

Throughout the Toon takeover saga, there was talk that they could make a bid to buy the Italian giants.

Amanda Staveley backed up these claims after the Newcastle deal was completed. She admitted that they looked at buying Inter, but decided not to because the ‘league was a mess‘.

However, even after the Newcastle deal was done and Mike Ashley was no more, there were still claims of PIF making a move for Inter.

It was claimed by Italian outlet Libero that they were going to offer £1billion to buy Inter. The report even suggested that PIF wanted two more teams – Marseille and a Brazilian side.

Fast forward to almost a year since the Newcastle takeover was complete, and what’s the latest on Inter Milan possibly getting the same owners?

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, PIF and Inter’s owners have both denied that they are any ‘active negotiations’ going on right now.

He adds that Suning are looking for investment at the San Siro, but they do not want to sell the club.

This comes after a strange claim earlier this month that a deal was actually completed for PIF to buy Inter.

These rumours of PIF and Inter have always been lingering in the background, and they have never made much sense.

Since buying Newcastle, the vision has been to get the Magpies challenging for the Premier League and into Europe. But being in Europe could be a problem if PIF also had Inter.

That’s why speculation over the Nerazzurri was always a concern back when the takeover saga was rumbling on.

If PIF’s deal to buy Newcastle eventually proves to be fruitful, they will no doubt want to own more clubs. However, they surely won’t be European powerhouses like Inter Milan. It would be smaller clubs from across the world, like the Manchester City owners have done.

While something like the City Group wouldn’t benefit football as a whole, it could help Newcastle. But for now, the Magpies are PIF’s only football acquisition, despite the constant speculation of Inter Milan being bought.
