According to the Northern Echo, Eddie Howe is interested in the Newcastle United job.
The former Bournemouth boss has re-entered the conversation in recent days, with the Mirror claiming that he has held talks about becoming Newcastle manager.
The Northern Echo state that there has been no ‘formal approach’ from the Magpies at this stage.
Howe has long been linked with the Newcastle job. Even during the Mike Ashley era there was speculation that he could replace Steve Bruce.
Alas, Ashley stuck by Bruce despite the horrific results and performances.
Now there has been a change of ownership, the departure of Bruce should become a reality. However, it is taking longer than expected for some Toon fans.
Could Eddie Howe be the next Newcastle manager?
It’s taken longer than expected for Howe to return to management. The 43-year-old seemed all but certain to become Celtic manager earlier in the year, but that move collapsed.
He left Bournemouth on August 1st 2020 after the Cherries were relegated from the Premier League. Howe had been on an incredible journey with the south coast side, taking them all the way up the footballing ladder.
His desire to play attacking football would certainly make him a hit at St James’ Park, while he already has a relationship with current Toon players Callum Wilson and Ryan Fraser.
Some fans have reacted to talk of Howe coming to Newcastle, and were certainly excited by the prospect of him replacing Bruce.
However, his record on transfers leaves a lot to be desired, with big money wasted on the likes of Jordon Ibe.
Getting the Newcastle job would be a huge opportunity for Howe, whose stock isn’t as high as it once was.
While it would see him move north away from his family, it is no wonder that the chance to manage one of the richest clubs in the world appeals to Howe. But will he get that chance?
