Newcastle United will have a new shirt sponsor in 2023.

That’s according to i News, who claim the Magpies have agreed a deal to end their partnership with FUN88 early.

The Chinese betting company have been with Newcastle for five years, with their logo on every kit since our return to the Premier League. They replaced Wonga in 2017.

However, the upcoming Premier League season will be their last as the Magpies’ shirt sponsor.

This news came on the same day that Newcastle unveiled their new shirt for the upcoming season. There was speculation that it would feature a new sponsor, so there was some surprise when the jersey included the FUN88 logo once again.

But it will be the last black and white shirt of the FUN88 era, with an early exit on the ‘long-term’ deal agreed.

Talk of new sponsorship is exciting for Newcastle, as it’s a way to generate more revenue and boost our spending power. That could be limited this season due to financial fair play.

At least one new sponsor coming to Newcastle soon

While we’re stuck with FUN88 for at least one more year, there is reportedly one new sponsor on the horizon.

It was claimed last month that the nation of Botswana had held talks about a sponsorship deal with the Magpies’ owners.

That report has now been backed up by i News, who claim that Newcastle are close to agreeing a deal to make the Botswana tourist board their sleeve sponsor for the 21/22 season.

It’s certainly a strange sponsor, but not uncommon in the Premier League. Arsenal have a similar deal with Rwanda.

Whatever the Botswana tourist board’s logo is will very likely be on the new Newcastle home shirt, which is now available for pre-order. It’s certainly an improvement on last season, with no big number four ruining it.

It’s proving to be a very busy week at St James’ Park. Dan Ashworth has arrived, Isaac Hayden has gone, the new kit is out, Matt Targett is returning and now the FUN88 fun is coming to an end.
