Newcastle have missed a trick as new Castore home shirt is unveiled

The new Newcastle United home shirt has finally been released.

After an error last week that saw Castore mistakenly claim the kit was going to be available on June 1st, it is finally out in the wild.

A potential home shirt was leaked last month and it has proven to be correct. However, there is one big surprise.

The leaked shirt didn’t include a sponsor, which suggested to us that Fun88 were out and a new deal was on the horizon.

However, that has proven not to be the case. Castore’s latest Newcastle shirt has been unveiled, and it includes the Fun88 logo.

There had been speculation that a new sponsor was on its way, but contract obligations mean the Chinese betting company are going nowhere for now.

Castore’s best Toon shirt so far

Personally, I think the new home shirt is very nice. It’s definitely the best kit Castore have produced since they replaced Puma last year.

Fortunately there’s no giant number four ruining the home shirt like it did last season, although some fans reckon the thin stripes resemble the number 11…

Last season’s grandad collar was cool, but the colour of it ruined what could have been a decent shirt. This time Castore have gone with a crew neck, and it looks very smart. It gives the shirt a retro feel.

The stripes continue on the back of the shirt, which means red numbers will likely continue. That’s certainly a good thing.

Matt Targett should have modelled the new Newcastle shirt

Newcastle’s new shirt has been modelled by Bruno Guimaraes, Kieran Trippier and Allan Saint-Maximin, as well as Toon Women players Katie Barker and Olivia Watt.

However, perhaps the Magpies have missed a trick here.

It is being reported that a deal to sign Matt Targett permanently is close. He is reportedly set for a medical today.

That’s wonderful news, as the 26-year-old was fantastic during his loan spell. He’s a more than welcome addition at £12million.

But if a deal is so close, maybe Newcastle should have delayed the kit announcement to coincide it with Targett’s return.

That would have left Toon fans buzzing, who have been keen to see him join the club permanently.

It also would have taken some of the heat off Fun88 continuing as sponsor, which appears to have angered some supporters.

In reality, it doesn’t really matter. We’ve got a nice new home kit, and a new signing is close. And it’s a player we know and can trust.

We look forward to seeing Targett don the new Newcastle United shirt very soon.
