The Daily Mail claims that Newcastle United have Real Sociedad striker Alexander Isak on their radar. However, a reported fee of £40 million or more would put them off due to FFP restrictions.
He’s impressed since breaking onto the scene. But this past season wasn’t as impressive as the last two, netting 10 times. But the Swedish international scored 16 and 17 goals in the two previous seasons before – indicating why Isak’s price is around £40 million and why he’s on Newcastle’s radar. The 22-year-old clearly has a bright future ahead of him.
Spurs winger Dejan Kulusevski has praised the forward in the past. Stating: “He’s good at everything. Good at combining and he is fast” (Teller Report).
Newcastle spent a lot of money in January this year and is making some moves this summer too. So whilst they have a lot more money these days, considering what they’ve already spent, Isak is too expensive.

Newcastle signing Isak would be a great alternative for Hugo Ekitike, but he’d be too expensive
It appears the Magpies will walk away from the Hugo Ekitike deal. It looked as if it would be around £26 million for the Frenchman. But the negotiations have seemed to have frustrated the Toon.
With that in mind, it would hardly make sense for Newcastle to meet Isak’s price of around £40 million. Especially when you consider the potential FFP repercussions. With the wealth of the Magpies’ owners, the Premier League will be keeping a close eye on their spending.
Isak is too expensive, but Newcastle hasn’t put all their eggs in one basket. Armando Broja of Chelsea has been linked and so has Brazilian striker Gabriel Barbosa, just to name a few.

If money and FFP were no object, Isak would be an exciting signing. He has plenty of game experience under his belt for a 22-year-old. In addition, considering his goal tally he looks to be one for the future.
But currently, Isak is not the right alternative for Newcastle. Eddie Howe’s search for another striker, therefore, continues.
