Report: Newcastle have now identified ‘extraordinary’ signing for January

Newcastle United are already making plans for the January transfer window, and head of recruitment Steve Nickson has found an exciting target.

The Magpies did some great business during the summer, with the likes of Sven Botman and Alexander Isak arriving. However, we did leave ourselves short in certain areas.

Eddie Howe wanted a right winger all summer, while there was also a late push for a centre midfielder. However, neither arrived.

It gives us something to target when the transfer window reopens, and it appears that Newcastle already have some interesting options lined up.

James Maddison is being heavily linked with a move to St James’ Park, while there has also been talk of his Leicester teammate Youri Tielemans moving as well.

Elsewhere, Shakhtar Donetsk wonderkid Mykhaylo Mudryk is the subject of interest from Newcastle.

However, the Athletic suggest that there is an even more exciting player being lined up.

According to the Athletic, the club plan to address their lack of depth in the coming transfer windows. They add that targets for the New Year are already being identified by head of recruitment Steve Nickson.

He has been involved in some exciting deals as of late, helping bring Botman and Bruno Guimaraes to the club. And now he could have another masterstroke up his sleeve.

The Athletic state that they have been told that one player set to be targeted by Nickson and Newcastle is ‘extraordinary’. Sadly, no name is mentioned at this point.

However, it sounds like it will be a fresh name who has not already been linked by the press. That rules out someone like Maddison – who would be an ‘extraordinary’ addition in truth.

Whoever it is, Newcastle’s recent track record when it comes to transfers is so good that Toon fans should be very excited.

We have seen deals come out of the blue already since the change of ownership. It happened with Bruno and Isak. The club are now capable of acting intelligently and swiftly.

Another deal like that could be in the pipeline for January, when an ‘extraordinary’ footballer could be on his way to Newcastle. Watch this space.
