Garang Kuol‘s World Cup is over, and next on his agenda is a loan move away from Newcastle United in January.
The 18-year-old almost took his young career to even brighter heights on Saturday night. He came off the bench for Australia in the knockout game against Argentina, and almost scored his first ever international goal.
With Argentina winning 2-1, the Socceroos were pushing for an equaliser and produced a late chance. And it fell to Kuol.
A cross was hurled into the box, and Kuol managed to roll the Argentina defender, giving him the chance to score. But his effort was brilliantly saved by Emi Martinez, who ensured his side went through to the next round.
It was agonizing for Kuol, who had the chance to score a late equaliser against Lionel Messi and co. However, it wasn’t to be.

Kuol still made history on Saturday night, becoming the youngest ever player to appear in a World Cup knockout game at 18 years and 79 days, breaking a record which had belonged to Pele since 1958.
It has been an incredible few months for the teenager, and next up is his transfer to Newcastle United.
Newcastle to loan out Garang Kuol
When Kuol’s move to Newcastle was first confirmed, it was reported that he would be loaned out in order to gain the required experience for a work permit.
However, his involvement at the World Cup threatened to change those plans. Some more international caps would boost his chances of getting a work permit and thus allow him to start playing for Newcastle straightaway.
But it looks like a temporary move is still on the cards for Kuol. The Northern Echo report that Newcastle are planning to loan him out when his move becomes official in January.
Choosing the right destination will be imperative. Sporting Director Dan Ashworth needs to ensure that Kuol has the right atmosphere to continue his development.
It has been a crazy few months for the forward. He has gone from being unknown to talked about across the globe. In the words of Chris Wood, he is ‘very exciting‘. And now he is set to move his life from Australia to England.
That is a huge deal for someone so young, and he will also be going somewhere else new on loan. It will be a big test of character for the young Australian.
Hopefully the loan move goes well, and it will be interesting to see where he is sent to. With the January transfer window looming, Newcastle need to make a decision soon.
