Arsenal are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign Mykhaylo Mudryk – a player Newcastle United have been linked with.
The Ukrainian winger is one of the most in demand players in Europe right now, and it looks like he is on course to secure a move to the Premier League.
Arsenal have been the frontrunners in this transfer saga for a long time, and it finally looks like they are going to sign the 22-year-old from Shakhtar Donetsk.
According to the Telegraph, the Gunners are close to an agreement with Shakhtar, which should unlock the door for this deal to go through.
That appears to be the only stumbling block, with Mudryk very keen to join the Premier League leaders. However, he is not going to come cheap.

It was reported last year that Shakhtar wanted a similar fee to the ones that Jack Grealish and Antony cost in recent times, with their technical director Dario Srna believing that Mudryk is just as talented as them.
That led to a price tag of £88million, and it now looks like they are going to get close to that fee.
The Telegraph state that Arsenal have indicated that they are happy to pay between £75million and £80million for the ‘rapid‘ forward, including add-ons. They add that the initial fee will likely be more than £50million.
Mudryk is going to cost Arsenal a lot of money, and it is clear why Newcastle are not at the forefront of this transfer tussle.
Newcastle to miss out on Mykhaylo Mudryk
With Arsenal set to agree a deal that could be worth more than £75million for Mudryk, it is clear that Eddie Howe’s side never really had a chance.
The Magpies have been linked with him since September. Reporter Ben Jacobs first stated that he was on Newcastle’s radar, then i News claimed that Dan Ashworth could make a £50million move for him.
Since then his price tag has gone up and up, at a time when Newcastle are reluctant to splash the cash. And it sounds like it would have taken a transfer record smashing deal to bring him to St James’ Park.
The Toon owners have already done that once this season, bringing Alexander Isak to the club for £63million. It would have been a huge shock to see them do it again, especially as we wrestle with the problems that financial fair play could pose.
And with Mudryk’s heart set on a move to Arsenal, it felt like this was a transfer saga that Newcastle were never going to win.
That finally looks to be the case, with Mikel Arteta now closer than ever to getting his man.
