Newcastle United face Paris Saint-Germain in 10 days in the Champions League, and now the French side could suddenly be sweating on the fitness of Kylian Mbappe.

While Newcastle won 8-0 against Sheffield United in the Premier League on Sunday, Paris Saint-Germain are playing Marseille in Ligue 1.

Luis Enrique’s side raced into a 2-0 first half lead against Marseille, but the game’s big incident took place in the 32nd minute.

Kylian Mbappe went down with an injury before receiving treatment. However, it was deemed that he was not fit enough to carry on and was replaced by Goncalo Ramos.

This is a major concern for PSG, who will head to St James’ Park to face Newcastle in less than two weeks.

Kylian Mbappe now a doubt to face Newcastle in the Champions League

PSG face Newcastle United at St James’ Park on October 4th, in what will be the Magpies’ first home game in the Champions League in 20 years.

It is going to be a very special occasion, but also a tremendously difficult match. Newcastle could come up against the best player in the world in Mbappe, who has been tipped to rise to the occasion and shine at St James’ Park.

However, he might not get the chance to do that if this is a serious injury.

That could have a huge impact on how the game against the Ligue 1 champions goes. Newcastle will fancy themselves at home against anyone in the Champions League, but not having to contest with Mbappe would give the Toon defence a major boost.

Of course, PSG have plenty of other players who can hurt us, while there are no guarantees at the moment that Mbappe will miss the game.

For some, it will be disappointing if Mbappe misses out. Qualifying for the Champions League meant seeing some of the world’s best players at St James’ Park, and there is arguably no one better than Mbappe right now. From that perspective, it would be a shame if he is injured.

With 10 days to go, we await further news from Paris.
