Newcastle United are going to be part of a different summer transfer window.

The Magpies are firming up their summer transfer plans, with Eddie Howe wanting at least three signings.

There could also be outgoings at St James’ Park, as Harvey Barnes attracts Premier League interest.

This will be a slightly different summer transfer window. Due to the Club World Cup, the window will briefly open between June 1st and June 10th. It will then reopen on June 16th through to September 1st.

However, that is not the only change that Newcastle United and other clubs can expect.

When the summer transfer window will close

The transfer window usually closes at 11pm on deadline day for English clubs.

However, that does not look like it will be the case in 2025.

According to the Daily Mail, the Premier League and the EFL have backed a decision to close the transfer window at 7pm.

They report that the change is to help admin staff, as they can be working beyond midnight to finalise last-minute deals when the window closes at 11pm.

The Daily Mail add that some club officials are concerned that this will cause problems, as teams from foreign leagues might be able to carry on doing deals while the English window is closed.

When Newcastle United want to do their transfer business

While some clubs leave a lot of their business to the dying embers of the window, that is not normally how Newcastle United operate.

Newcastle did pursue a late Anthony Elanga deal in 2024, but it collapsed for that very reason. Forest chose not to sell Elanga, as they did not have time to buy a replacement.

But if the Magpies had been able to strike a deal, it would have been a late dash to get the transfer over the line.

Ahead of the summer 2025 transfer window, Newcastle want to do their business early.

The club could even be active during the mini window before the Club World Cup, with Newcastle keen to take advantage of clubs in need of a PSR boost.

That could include Aston Villa. It has been reported that Aston Villa need to make one significant sale before June 30th to comply with PSR.

That is a situation that the Magpies found themselves in last year, with Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson leaving the club.
