Manchester United fans on social media are absolutely fuming about reports linking them with a former Newcastle United player.

After losing the Europa League final, the Red Devils won’t be joining Newcastle United in the Champions League next season.

While it is true that Man United have signed Newcastle target Matheus Cunha, the hope will be that it will prove the last time the Old Trafford giants manage to steal a march on the Toon Army.

Indeed, Newcastle hope to sign Bryan Mbeumo ahead of the Manchester club, who are now being linked with a shock move for a former Toon player.

According to talkSPORT, ex-Magpie Aleksandar Mitrovic could be a target for Ruben Amorim’s side and it’s fair to say fans on social media are unhappy.

On social media platform X, a host of supporters of the club vented their fury.

Mitrovic signed for Newcastle from Anderlecht in 2015 but rarely convinced before leaving for Fulham in 2018. In 2023, he joined PIF-owned club Al-Hilal and has since scored an impressive 68 goals in 79 games.

Still, that doesn’t appear to have been enough to convince fans of Manchester United…

“Banter club,” added another fan.

One supporter said: “That would be terrible”.

“The circus is not going to stop,” said another supporter.

Aleksandar Mitrovic still loves Newcastle United fans

It was a shame the forward’s time on Tyneside didn’t really work out. There were some flashes, but he rarely ever looked convincing on a consistent basis.

However, Mitrovic said he still loves Newcastle fans, having been impressed by their passion during his time at the club.

While he’s proven he can score goals in the Premier League, it’s still easy to see why Man United fans might not be keen to see him signed.

Now just over 30 and having been plying his trade in a footballing backwater of late, he’d hardly be the most inspiring addition following such a difficult season…
