Fulham star and former Newcastle United player Aleksandar Mitrovic has raved about the Toon fanbase, speaking very fondly of his time in the north-east.
Taking to an interview with The Athletic, the Serbia international hailed the Magpies’ support at St James’ Park, voicing his admiration for his former club.
“After six months at Newcastle, you find out that everyone has had the same seat for 10 years or maybe even longer,” Mitrovic said.
“You go out to warm up and recognise everybody in the front row. ‘How are you, my friend?’. I’d speak to people and they’d say, ‘It used to be my grandad going to matches here, next it will be my kids’.

“They live for football, you know? They live for the weekend to see their team. When friends in Serbia ask me about England, I tell them about Newcastle because football is like a religion to these people.
“They gave me the chance to play in the Premier League, aged 20. It’s a massive club and I still support them. Everything that’s happened there, with the new owner and all the money, it’s fully deserved for the fans. They are the best in England, maybe in the world.”
Mitrovic still loves Newcastle
The 28-year-old has ben absolutely incredible for Fulham this season, who seem to be going under the radar.
Currently sixth place in the Premier League table, Mitrovic has bagged 11 goals and two assists in 15 games this term.
For Newcastle, Miguel Almiron leads the scoring with nine goals, with Callum Wilson trailing behind with six.
The Toon number nine has only played two less matches than Mitrovic this season, so it really shows just how impressive the Fulham forward has been this term.

If Newcastle ever wanted the striker back at the club, we’re sure he would jump at the chance.
However, it’s really nice to see the player doing so well for himself after things didn’t completely work out for him at St James’ Park.
