PIF have big plans, there’s no getting away from that.

Not only has their investment made Newcastle United into a Champions League team after just one full season, PIF are working hard to make the Saudi Pro League a major market force.

Al Nassr, Al-Hilal, Al-Ahli and Al-Ittihad are all under their watch and have already signed big players as the division becomes a home to some of the top talent around the world.

Now, they are reportedly ready to try and tempt what would be the biggest star yet to join.

PIF are ready to explore Kylian Mbappe transfer

Indeed, Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly put Kylian Mbappe up for sale after he refused to sign a new contract. Previously, the former Monaco forward has been touted for a move to Newcastle, although surely not while FFP constraints linger.

Rather than risk losing the striker for free, they are ready to cash in.

According to The Athletic, that has raised interest in Saudi Arabia.

They claim a state-backed team in the Gulf state have expressed an initial interest in signing the 24-year-old.

The possibility of a loan move to a Saudi club from PSG is also mooted, allowing him to leave but the French giants recoup some money before his contract expires next summer, when Real Madrid are a possible destination.

These kind of signings were always touted for Newcastle

When the initial news of the takeover broke in October 2021, Newcastle were linked with all manner of superstars.

Though they haven’t gone down that route at St James’ Park, clearly PIF aren’t adverse to doing so in their other ventures.

While Mbappe has a lot of his career ahead of him and has already been described as “the best player in the world”, the likes of Karim Benzema, Cristiano Ronaldo and N’Golo Kante are the kind of aging superstar signings the owners simply haven’t chased on Tyneside since arriving.

The difference in recruitment tactic is certainly noteworthy.

The Saudi Pro League is not going away. They obviously have the funds to attract big names and the signing of Mbappe would be the biggest statement of intent yet.
