Reporter claims Newcastle is a possible destination for Kylian Mbappe

Newcastle United are a contender to sign Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain.

That’s according to journalist Ben Jacobs, who believes that St James’ Park is a possible destination for one of the greatest players on the planet.

Mbappe looked set for a move away from Paris over the summer, but dramatically signed a new mega contract at the Parc Des Princes.

However, he now reportedly wants out. According to ESPN, the 23-year-old wants to leave PSG in January because his relationship with the club has broken down.

Mbappe has been with PSG for more than five years now, securing a permanent transfer in 2018 for £166million after spending a year on loan from Monaco.

But now he wants his time in the French capital to come to an end, seemingly unhappy with how things are going behind the scenes.

So what does any of this have to do with little old Newcastle United?!

Jacobs on Mbappe to Newcastle

Journalist Ben Jacobs has spoke about the Mbappe situation on The Football Terrace’s Done Deal Show. And he believes that Newcastle are an option for the France international due to PIF’s desire to sign a superstar.

“Newcastle is another possible destination, in the sense that PIF want a marquee signing,” he said.

“But it’s going to be very very difficult to persuade Kylian Mbappe to join Newcastle. Again, there’s absolutely nothing it it at this stage.

“There’s been no contact. He’s not on a shortlist. He’s not a player that Dan Ashworth is working on.

“This is very much pie in the sky. It’s very much Newcastle’s ambitious ownership group saying what about if we could get a young, elite star to come and build our model around.

“But Newcastle would have to, first and foremost, enter the race late, as they would have to show Mbappe they have got Champions League football.”

Mbappe joining Newcastle is never going to happen

While PIF might fancy a marquee name at Newcastle, there is simply no way that Mbappe is coming to Tyneside.

Everything about this is wrong. There is no argument you could make in favour of him swapping PSG for Newcastle.

Financially, it couldn’t happen. FFP is already holding Newcastle back, and Dan Ashworth has recently spoke about how spending £200million in a year is unsustainable. So how on earth could they then suddenly afford Mbappe?!

Then there’s wages. Newcastle are reluctant to smash their wage structure. Can you see Mbappe arriving in the North East for £100-a-week and a Greggs Sausage Roll? Personally, it seems unlikely.

From a footballing perspective, Mbappe is one of the best on the planet. He is always going to be at a club that is competing for honours domestically and in the Champions League. That is not Newcastle right now, and it might not be for a long time.

Jacobs might think that PIF want someone like Mbappe and that means a move to Newcastle is possible, but he is barking up the wrong tree completely.
