One former transfer target continues to rub salt in Newcastle United’s wounds by starring for his new side.
Newcastle United decided to wait out the January transfer window without adding any major signings to Eddie Howe’s squad.
Instead, Howe will have to finish the 2024/25 campaign with a weaker squad with Lloyd Kelly joining Juventus and Miguel Almiron rejoining Atlanta United.
Newcastle did do their research on several signings, with the Magpies keeping a keen eye on several striker targets amid Callum Wilson’s uncertain future at the club.
However with Alexander Isak and William Osula as options up front, Newcastle will wait until the summer before strengthening. That did, however, cause the Magpies to miss out on an exciting talent.

Newcastle United missed out on £15m Serhou Guirassy deal
Before Osula arrived at St James’ Park, one striker that Newcastle were weighing up was Serhou Guirassy.
Newcastle’s interest in Guirassy dates back to 2023 when the now 28-year-old forward was starring for Stuttgart in Germany.
Guirassy was available to Newcastle for £15m in 2024 due to a release clause in his contract but there was interest from other clubs with Manchester United and Bayern Munich interested in Guirassy.
Newcastle missed the boat and Guirassy ended up making a move to Borussia Dortmund, and his form suggests PIF may regret not getting the cheque book out.
Guirassy is the Champions League top scorer after making an incredibly bright start at Dortmund.
Serhou Guirassy drops 10/10 masterclass at Borussia Dortmund
In 31 appearances this season, Guirassy has scored a whopping 23 goals across all competitions. That is two more goals than Isak has scored for Newcastle in 30 appearances this season.
Guirassy’s best performance of the season came on Saturday afternoon when he scored four in Dortmund’s 6-0 thumping against Union Berlin.
In WhoScored’s latest Team of the Week, Guirassy unsurprisingly features in a striker role after picking up a perfect 10/10 rating.
Three of Guirassy’s goals came in an eight-minute blitz in the second half – similar to Newcastle’s goal-spree against Nottingham Forest on the weekend.
