Paul Robinson has suggested that Newcastle United could sign two goalkeepers in January who are both better than Martin Dubravka.
Eddie Howe is on the lookout for a new goalkeeper after Nick Pope sustained a serious shoulder injury against Manchester United.
Former Tottenham and Blackburn keeper has been speaking to Tottenham News where he claimed that both David de Gea and Hugo Lloris are better options for Newcastle than Dubravka.
Robinson says Dubravka is not good enough for the Magpies
In the seven games in which Dubravka has played this season, the 34-year-old has conceded 14 goals and kept just one clean sheet last week against 10-men Fulham.
Conceding three to former Newcastle man Chris Wood in a 3-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest was a new low for Dubravka who is now being called into question by a lot of supporters.
Howe previously suggested that he has full faith in Dubravka, but it’s now been rumoured that the boss is willing to explore the January market for a new keeper having developed concerns over the shot-stoppers current form.
As alternative options, Robinson has claimed that De Gea and Lloris are both better than Newcastle’s current keepers in Dubravka and Loris Karius who is yet to be given an opportunity by Howe in the Premier League.
In the interview, Robinson said: “You look at the possibility of Hugo Lloris, or David de Gea is another one, those two are both better options than what he’s got, but he’s got to be clever with what he says.
“For Lloris, if that’s the way that he wants to do that then you’ve got to put into the question his age and his want to play, his drive and passion to still play at the top level, whether that’s in the Premier League, back in France or wherever.
“His personal situation comes into it more than anything because of his age, but Lloris or De Gea is certainly a better option in my opinion than what Newcastle have already got.”

De Gea and Lloris are financially viable for Newcastle
Newcastle are stuck in a bit of a tricky situation at the minute in that they want to spend big in January to give the team the best chance of finishing in a European spot this season, though Champions League qualifications looks to be a tough ask.
However, FFP restrictions mean that there’s not an awful lot to spend in the winter window which is why they are predominantly looking at loan deals or free transfers, like with Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City.
It’s nowhere near being ideal for Howe who is desperate to add some more depth to an injury-plagued squad, but that’s exactly why there isn’t much pressure being put on him by the club as they appreciate it is very difficult circumstances.
