Paul Merson has turned Newcastle United vs Fulham into Alexander Isak leaving yet again.
There is a real media obsession with Alexander Isak departing Newcastle United, despite the 25-year-old making no noises about a move away.
Newcastle know that no one can afford Isak, as the striker continues his red hot form. He netted his 18th and 19th goals of the season last week during the Magpies’ win over Southampton.
It has even been reported that Newcastle will offer Isak a new contract at the end of the season, despite the fact that his current deal runs until 2028.

Paul Merson predicts Newcastle United vs Fulham
Isak has the opportunity to reach 20 goals this weekend, as Fulham head to St James’ Park.
Paul Merson has told Sportskeeda that he thinks Isak’s quality could be the difference for Newcastle against Fulham, before needlessly turning his attention to Arsenal.
“I watched Fulham the other day and I must admit I was disappointed,” he said.
“They did not show their true colours and let Manchester United off the hook in that game. In my opinion, they could have easily gotten a point and may look back at that loss as a missed opportunity.
“Despite Fulham flattering to deceive in the last game, they will still make life very difficult for Newcastle. This game could go either way, but Newcastle certainly have a bit more quality within their ranks.
We’re talking about the best centre-forward in the league right now in Alexander Isak. His goals and contributions have been mightily impressive.
“The thing with Isak is that he is consistently good. Some players score 10 goals in 10 games and there would have been two hat-tricks in there. But Isak is someone who scores in every single game and that makes him the best out there.
“There is no doubt that all the top clubs will want to sign him. With Financial Fair Play (FFP) also coming into the picture, it will be interesting to see if Newcastle can hold on to him. If Arsenal signed Isak, I would be shocked if they don’t end up winning the Premier League. The same goes for Chelsea, it will seal that top four place and take them to the next level!”

Alexander Isak’s record for Newcastle against Fulham
With the transfer window still open and Arsenal still needing a striker, they will dream about signing Isak.
But he is going absolutely nowhere, and will still be a Newcastle United player once the window closes on Monday night.
He could even be a Newcastle United player who has scored 20 goals for the second consecutive season. Gary Lineker says Isak needs to do this consistently to be world class, but he is certainly on the right path.
In terms of facing Fulham, Isak has only ever scored once. That was in the 2022/23 season, as the Sweden international netted a late winner for Eddie Howe’s Champions League chasing Magpies.
Isak has played against Fulham four times, winning three. He will hope to make it four out of five on Saturday, as Newcastle aim for redemption after losing against Marco Silva’s side earlier in the campaign.
