After their Champions League defeat on Wednesday, Newcastle United are back in Premier League action this weekend.
Eddie Howe takes his Newcastle team to Molineux to face Wolverhampton Wanderers, who are currently 12th in the Premier League.
Gary O’Neil’s side are five points behind the Magpies, and will be expecting a tough game on Saturday evening.
However, Newcastle are the walking wounded heading into the fixture. Elliot Anderson is out of action, while Alexander Isak and Jacob Murphy picked up injuries during the defeat to Borussia Dortmund. On top of that, Sandro Tonali is now banned until August next year for betting.
But despite boasting a depleted squad, the travelling Toon Army will be eager to see their side pick up another three points, and that is exactly what former Arsenal forward Paul Merson thinks they will do.

Paul Merson thinks Newcastle will beat Wolves
As part of his latest column for Sportskeeda, Paul Merson has predicted the scores of every Premier League game this weekend. He believes that Newcastle will beat Wolves, tipping Howe’s side to win 2-1 at Molineux.
“Wolves are a decent team and have had some good results this season, but I’m just going to pick Newcastle to win this one despite their result in midweek,” he said.
“I was actually shocked by their defeat to Borussia Dortmund, I thought they’d blow the Bundesliga side out of the water.
“If Newcastle progress to the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League and manage to sneak into the Premier League top four, I think that’ll count as a good season for them.”
Win on the road would be the perfect response for Newcastle after Champions League loss
Merson believes that Newcastle are going to pick up a narrow victory, which would be more than adequate following our Champions League exploits.
We have played away from home in both of our post-Champions League games so far, beating Sheffield United 8-0 before drawing 2-2 with West Ham. Wolves will present another interesting challenge, and hopefully there is no hangover after our European defeat.
Any kind of win would be welcome. At the moment, just not getting any more injuries would be a good result!
Hopefully Merson is right about Newcastle, and they are able to win on Saturday evening. Then again, he was not right at all about the Magpies on Wednesday night. He thought we would blow Borussia Dortmund ‘out of the water’, but instead it was the German side who came out on top.
