According to Telegraph writer Luke Edwards, Newcastle aren’t the only team with an interest in signing Arsenal’s Joe Willock.
The midfielder has recently been linked with a return to St James’ Park after a sensational loan spell last season.
Willock played 14 times for the Magpies, scoring an incredible eight Premier League goals.
Ever since the season ended, it’s been clear that we need to bring the 21-year-old back.
And it looked like a return could be on the cards. The Telegraph reported on the 14th July that Newcastle were close to completing another loan deal.
While a second temporary move isn’t a long-term solution, it’s better than not signing him.
However, 12 days later, Willock is still yet to arrive at St James’ Park.
After the friendly win over Doncaster, Steve Bruce was asked about Newcastle’s interest in Willock.
“You have to ask Arsenal, it’s their decision and it’s the player’s decision,” he told Sky Sports.
“Of course we want him back, he did great with us and gives us another dimension in midfield that we haven’t got.”

As it stands, Newcastle are yet to make a single first-team signing this summer.
It’s been a bleak few weeks for the Magpies. No signings imminent, and seemingly no takeover on the horizon.
But if Willock did return, it would paper over a lot of the cracks. However, even this deal is proving difficult.
Telegraph reporter Luke Edwards has wrote on Twitter that Newcastle aren’t the only club interested in signing the youngster.
“Think others are also in for Willock too,” Edwards wrote.
This is certainly a concern. We’ve seen multiple Toon targets head elsewhere this summer, such as Kristoffer Ajer and William Saliba.
Missing out on them was disappointing, but not the end of the world.
But if Willock goes elsewhere it would be a disaster. He changed the way we played last season, and there is no one at the club right now capable of replicating what he did.
Bringing Willock home is a must. It’s a deal that needs to be completed ASAP.
