Newcastle United could have Anthony Gordon available for Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Marseille.

The 24-year-old missed Newcastle United’s win over Manchester City due to a hip injury, despite Eddie Howe saying prior to the game that he was ‘very close’ to returning.

Anthony Gordon seemingly was not close enough, as Newcastle United picked up a massive victory without him.

Prediction for Marseille vs Newcastle United?

But now he could be set to return, with the club providing an official update on the England international.

In a video shared on Newcastle United’s social media channels, Gordon can be seen travelling to France with the rest of the squad for Tuesday night’s game against Marseille.

That strongly suggests he is in contention to make his return from injury after missing the Magpies’ previous two matches.

What Eddie Howe said about Anthony Gordon’s fitness after beating Manchester City

Eddie Howe will hope that Gordon is fit enough to feature against Marseille, as he has played his best football this season in the Champions League.

The £45million winger has scored four goals and provided one assist this season, with all of his goal contributions coming in Europe.

As the Magpies’ number 10 attempts to add to his tally at Marseille’s expense, Howe provided an update on Gordon following Newcastle’s win over Manchester City.

“Anthony is very close,” he said.

“He was just not quite ready today [Saturday]. He is working hard, and he will be ready in the next few days.”
