Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has shared an injury update on Kieran Trippier.

The 33-year-old was forced off during the 3-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers, and it was later stated that he had suffered a calf injury.

Reports then began to surface stating that the injury was not as bad as first feared, with Kieran Trippier likely only going to miss a couple of games.

Now Eddie Howe has confirmed those reports, stating that the defender will not feature for Newcastle against Chelsea on Monday or in the FA Cup quarter final away to Manchester City.

Eddie Howe shares how long Kieran Trippier will be out with injury

Howe has been speaking to the media ahead of Chelsea vs Newcastle United, and provided an update on Trippier’s situation after he suffered a muscle injury last weekend.

“Kieran’s injury is not too bad, a minor injury,” he said.

“The scans showed enough to probably keep him out for the next two games, and we hope he will be back for the first game after the international break, although that’s not guaranteed.

“There is every chance he travels to both games; he is very keen to stay with the group despite the injury. It highlights his leadership qualities.”

Trippier can still have an impact at Newcastle despite injury

Newcastle United are definitely going to be without Kieran Trippier for two games, but Howe is unable to say whether or not it will be more. The club are hoping to have him back to face West Ham on March 30th, but there are no guarantees.

In the meantime, Tino Livramento will take his place at right-back. That is very exciting for Toon fans, who have been very impressed with the 21-year-old since his big money arrival from Southampton in the summer.

Livramento has done extremely well, but has played a lot of his football at left-back. Now he will get the chance to operate down the right – at least for the next two games.

As for Trippier, he may still be present at Newcastle’s next two fixtures. Howe has hinted that the England international may travel with the group to support his teammates, just like he did when he suffered an injury during his debut season at St James’ Park.

That sums up the type of person Trippier is – he is a leader on Tyneside, and someone who can have a major impact when he is not even on the pitch.
