No sign of ‘frightening’ 24-year-old in Newcastle training ahead of Chelsea

Newcastle United have released their training photos from Thursday morning’s session ahead of the Premier League clash with Chelsea.

Eddie Howe appeared to have all of his internationals back. Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton were in attendance, after they endured a disappointing international break with Brazil. They lost twice, while Joelinton received a controversial red card.

Elsewhere, Fabian Schar was in attendance. Fans were concerned about his fitness following the Bournemouth game, but he looks good to go for the weekend after playing a grand total of zero minutes for Switzerland.

But while there were plenty of key players involved in the Newcastle training session, there were a few that weren’t – or at least they weren’t photographed taking part.

Alexander Isak not seen in Newcastle training

The biggest player not to be spotted is Alexander Isak. The 24-year-old is being tipped to return from a groin injury against Chelsea, but did not feature in any of the 26 photos that the club published on their official website.

Hopefully it is just a case of smoke and mirrors, as we desperately need the ‘frightening‘ centre-forward fit and available amid Callum Wilson’s injury woes.

Isak was not the only casualty who could not be spotted. Sean Longstaff is a major doubt to face Chelsea, and the fact the local lad was not pictured will have fans concerned that he is going to miss the game.

That would be a shame, but it would be an even bigger shame if he misses PSG as well. If Longstaff does miss Chelsea, hopefully it is with the view of him being ready for the Champions League on Tuesday night.

There was also no Sven Botman, whose knee injury has caused the Toon medical team a real headache. Hopefully he can avoid surgery, but it looks like a return to first-team action is still not imminent.
