At this moment in time, it does not sound like Newcastle United’s injury list is getting longer, despite suffering a few scares against Bournemouth.
That was a brutal night for the Magpies, as they were beaten 2-0 at the Vitality Stadium. Not only did Newcastle lose the match, but they also lost some players.
However, it looks like the only casualty is going to be Sean Longstaff. He carried on despite suffering an ankle injury, and is now a doubt to face Chelsea.
But there is a chance that Miguel Almiron could start against the Blues despite suffering a hamstring injury in that game, while there is more positive news regarding Fabian Schar.
The £3million defender looked to have sustained an injury against the Cherries, but was able to play the full 90 minutes. Then he turned up to play for Switzerland during the international break and was not used in the first fixture.
That caused some concern among Toon fans, but a new update from the Athletic’s Chris Waugh explains how the club were never too worried. In fact, they are quite pleased.
Newcastle are happy about Fabian Schar right now
The Athletic’s Chris Waugh has spoke about Fabian Schar on the latest episode of Pod On The Tyne, and shared details of how the club currently feel about the 31-year-old centre-back.
“He seemed to suffer a bit of a muscular problem at Bournemouth,” he said.
“When he joined up with the Switzerland squad, he didn’t play in the first match. He was an unused substitute.
“Now Switzerland have confirmed that he is fit and available. That was my understanding anyway, that Newcastle were not concerned. They are actually very pleased with how Switzerland have dealt with that.”

Newcastle need Schar to stay fit after injury scare
Clubs are always scared when their players go on international duty, so it makes a nice change for Newcastle to be happy with how Switzerland have handled Schar’s fitness.
The defender will therefore hopefully be available to start against Chelsea on Saturday, assuming he comes through Tuesday night’s Euro 2024 qualifier against Romania unscathed.
Newcastle desperately need Schar to remain fit, especially with Sven Botman still struggling with a knee injury.
Schar has rolled back the years and is now playing with Jamaal Lascelles, and the pair have looked brilliant together. Schar is having another excellent season, and hopefully that continues as Newcastle prepare for a busy week of games against Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United.
