Newcastle United star Nick Woltemade is particularly excited to play against Liverpool this season.

Clashes between Newcastle United and Liverpool have been some of the most iconic Premier League games in history, and the two played out a sensational new edition last month.

Champions Liverpool beat Newcastle United 3-2 in dramatic fashion at St James’ Park and even that doesn’t tell the whole story.

Indeed, Alexander Isak’s controversial move to Newcastle from Liverpool only adds to the drama and the next meeting between the two will be the first time the Swede has ever played against the Magpies.

It would be fair to say that the striker is bound to get rather a hostile reception from the away supporters when the two meet again later this season.

Woltemade, the man who replaced Isak, is excited for it.

The German international was conducting an interview with Sky Sports.

Newcastle United’s club-record signing was asked all manner of questions by supporters eager to quiz the 23-year-old.

When asked about which away stadium he was most looking forward to playing in now that he’s in England, Woltemade said Liverpool’s Anfield.

“I would say Anfield,” said the Newcastle forward.

“Jurgen Klopp was there for a long time, so in Germany, everybody likes Liverpool.

“I think it will be nice.”

When Newcastle United play Liverpool next

Barring any cup draws, the next time Newcastle meet Liverpool will be on Sunday, 31 January, 2026.

Eddie Howe will take his side to Anfield, which is a daunting prospect.

Newcastle have a terrible record there and the idea that Isak could actually score – and perhaps celebrate – against his former club is painful.

However, supporters can at least be optimistic that Newcastle’s new-look frontline will click into place by then.

Yoane Wissa should be back in action at that point following his recent knee injury, while Woltemade will have had a few months of getting to grips with life in the Premier League.

Still, the Isak factor will almost certainly dominate the headlines heading into that particular game.
