Newcastle United’s top 15 youngest players ever, including Lewis Miley.

Some of the best footballers in the history of England come from the North East of the country, with the famous Wallsend Boys Club playing a big role in that.

Alan Shearer, the Charlton brothers, Michael Carrick and Stan Mortensen all hail from the region, and they didn’t even come through at Newcastle United.

Yet, Newcastle have a proud tradition of producing talented players through their academy, as well, with many going on to become first-team stars.

Peter Beardsley, Paul Gascoigne, Jackie Milburn, Shola Ameobi and many more are all products of Newcastle’s youth ranks.

The Magpies have historically strived to give local lads a chance in the first team and here are the club’s 15 youngest players ever.

Steve Watson remains Newcastle’s youngest player ever, at just 16 years, 7 months and 9 days.

It’s a record he has held for 25 years and, after his debut, Watson remained a mainstay in the side for eight years until he moved to Aston Villa in 1998.

The right-back was ever-present in Kevin Keegan’s Entertainers team, making 258 appearances for the club in total, scoring 14 goals and setting up another 14.

Will Steve Watson’s record be broken at Newcastle United?

Despite their proud record of producing footballers, Newcastle don’t have many home-grown players in the first-team squad at the moment.

Lewis Miley is the only graduate in Eddie Howe’s side and the teenage midfielder has been struggling for game time for over a year now.

Hometown hero Sean Longstaff was sold to Leeds United this past summer, while the talented Elliot Anderson had to be sold to Nottingham Forest in 2024 amid PSR struggles.

Given the talent Newcastle now have in their squad following PIF’s lavish spending, it’s hard to see Watson’s record being broken any time soon.
