Newcastle United youngster Charlie McArthur is already facing an issue after leaving St James’ Park on loan.
The Magpies have been moving a lot of young players out during the January transfer window, with the likes of Travis Hernes and Alex Murphy going out on loan. Elsewhere, Newcastle could also loan out Garang Kuol.
Charlie McArthur was sent to Carlisle United, with the 19-year-old defender getting his first temporary move away from Tyneside. It immediately looked like a good opportunity for the centre-back to gain senior experience and grow as a player.
However, there is already an issue.
Carlisle United sack former Newcastle United player

The move to Carlisle United made great sense for McArthur, as he would be playing for former Newcastle United defender Mike Williamson.
But that will no longer be the case.
The League Two side have announced on Monday that Williamson has been sacked, with Carlisle bottom of the table after losing 5-1 at home to Swindon Town.
The Cumbrians have decided to make a change, and McArthur must now hope that whoever replaces Williamson is keen to give him opportunities.
McArthur has been a mainstay since joining Carlisle, starting four League Two games in a row. In that time, he won one and lost three.
It is also a blow for Paul Dummett, who recently joined Carlisle after leaving Wigan Athletic.
Identical issue for Newcastle United youngster Alex Murphy
This is the second time in 2025 that this has happened to a Newcastle United defender.
Alex Murphy joined Bolton on loan last month, only for the League One outfit to make a major change just two days later.
So soon after signing Murphy, Ian Evatt was sacked by Bolton. He has now been replaced by Steven Schumacher.
Schumacher handed Murphy his first start on Saturday, and was impressed with the Irishman as they lost to Reading.
The change in manager at Bolton might not negatively impact Murphy, and the hope is that will also be the case for McArthur at Carlisle United. However, Williamson’s departure certainly feels like a blow for the Toon youngster.
