Newcastle United will aim to do a Premier League double over Nottingham Forest on Sunday afternoon.

Eddie Howe will be desperate to bounce back from Newcastle United’s 4-0 defeat to Manchester City on Saturday afternoon.

It was easily one of the worst performances of the season, and it comes at the start of a tricky run of fixtures for Newcastle with Nottingham Forest and Liverpool up next.

The 2025 Carabao Cup final is also around the corner, and Howe needs to make sure Newcastle aren’t distracted by the cup final.

It adds huge importance to Newcastle’s clash against Forest, especially as they are direct rivals for Champions League qualification. Howe will hope for a repeat of the clash in November.

Last time Newcastle United faced Nottingham Forest

Sunday’s meeting will be the third time Newcastle have faced Forest this season, with the two clubs meeting back in August in the Carabao Cup.

Newcastle have now booked their spot at Wembley for next month’s final, but the cup journey began with a penalty shootout win over Forest at City Ground.

Joe Willock scored in the first minute but when the match went to a shootout, it was Alexander Isak, Bruno Guimaraes, Anthony Gordon and Sean Longstaff who converted from the spot to reach the next round.

Newcastle then beat Forest 3-1 in the Premier League in November, with Murillo scoring first for the hosts.

Isak, Joelinton and Harvey Barnes all scored in the second half to give Newcastle a vital three points away from home.

Joelinton stood out for Newcastle vs Nottingham Forest

During the victory in November, Joelinton was Newcastle’s best player vs Forest having finished the game with a 9/10 rating.

The Brazilian started on the left wing, with Willock, Guimaraes and Longstaff starting in midfield and Gordon out on the right.

Joelinton scored Newcastle’s second goal of the game, but Howe will have to cope without him on Sunday afternoon.

Newcastle fans spotted Joelinton in a knee brace before the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final against Arsenal.

Howe said Newcastle missed Joelinton against City, and he is also expected to miss the Forest clash as he recovers. Thankfully, though, Joelinton should be fit for the Carabao Cup final next month.
