Newcastle United star Fabian Schar will certainly miss their next three games due to concussion rules.

Schar suffered a head injury for Newcastle United against Barcelona, having been hit in the face by Marcus Rashford’s shot.

The Swiss defender continued on but eventually came off and was replaced by Malick Thiaw, who impressed in his cameo.

On Friday, Schar confirmed he would miss the next few games for Newcastle and the timeline has now been revealed.

Fabian Schar to miss 12 days of action due to concussion rules

According to Luke Edwards of The Daily Telegraph on social media platform X, the FA’s concussion rules mean Schar has to miss 12 days of action.

That will rule him out of Sunday’s trip to Bournemouth, the Carabao Cup clash with Bradford on Wednesday and the journey to Arsenal next weekend.

Schar will be available again when Newcastle go to Belgium to play Union Saint-Gilloise in the Champions League at the start of October.

Why Fabian Schar initially stayed on for Newcastle United against Barcelona

Schar required treatment before trying to battle on for Newcastle, though he was eventually replaced anyway.

There has been some suggestion that the defender was still dealing with the impact of the blow to the head when Rashford drifted by him before scoring Barcelona’s opener.

It’s clearly difficult to say if that was the case and Howe has confirmed why he didn’t substitute Schar straight away against Barcelona

According to the Newcastle United manager, he was told that Schar was initially fine to continue.

“The only message I got was that he was ok to continue, and I don’t really know any more other than that,” he said.

Thiaw or Sven Botman look like the most likely options to replace the Swiss defender in the starting lineup for Newcastle’s game away at Bournemouth.

Schar joins Yoane Wissa and Jacob Ramsey on the Newcastle United injury list, with the summer signings ruled out with knee and ankle injuries respectively.
