There have not been many wingers better than Newcastle United man Anthony Gordon this season.

At just 23 years old, Anthony Gordon has proven that he has the quality to take Newcastle United to the next level that fans are so eager to reach.

So far this season, Gordon has scored nine goals and bagged six assists in all competitions, the second-highest goalscorer behind Alexander Isak.

Even other managers in the Premier League have recognised just how good Gordon has been this season. Following Newcastle’s 2-1 loss to Fulham in January, Marco Silva said Gordon was ‘quality’ and hailed him for a moment that helped the Magpies initially take the lead before falling to defeat.

Even within Newcastle’s squad, Gordon receives his fair share of praise. After Newcastle reached the Carabao Cup final, Bruno Guimaraes said he ‘loved’ Gordon and even went as far as to kiss him on the cheek.

The England international’s exceptional work this season has not gone unnoticed. A new statistic has put him amongst the best in Europe in one department.

Anthony Gordon’s creativity amongst best in Europe

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe will be incredibly pleased with where his players have ranked across Europe for several different statistics.

Guimaraes led Europe’s top five leagues for through balls while he enjoys more freedom in midfield thanks to a tactical change that has seen Sandro Tonali move into a deeper role in the middle of the park.

Now, Gordon can also say he ranks highly in Europe’s top five leagues – this time for chances created per 90. The 23-year-old creates an average of 2.56 chances per game which puts him in the top 1% of players within Europe.

Gordon has had his fair share of critics this season. The winger had a shaky start to the Premier League campaign but came into form after signing his new long-term contract.

Club legend Alan Shearer blasted Gordon and other ‘big players‘ after Newcastle were beaten by Brentford in December. It’s safe to say that Gordon has now silenced his critics thanks to his exceptional form.

Anthony Gordon can help Newcastle win silverware

Most Newcastle fans were not alive for the Magpies’ last trophy win in 1969. It has been even longer since they won a domestic honour. 2025 marks 70 years since Newcastle won the FA Cup – fans have been desperate for a trophy after so many decades of hurt.

Newcastle are in the Carabao Cup final and will face Liverpool at Wembley Stadium in March. The Magpies were in the same position back in 2023 where they lost out to Manchester United.

However, this time is different as Howe will have the likes of Gordon at his disposal for the final.

Elsewhere, new players like Sandro Tonali and Lewis Hall could play a huge part in helping deliver a trophy to Tyneside this season.

By no means will it be easy, but there is much more confidence that Newcastle can get the job done this time around.
