Newcastle United complete squad numbers for the 2025-26 season.

It was a summer of change at Newcastle United, but not a lot of it has been the good kind.

The mood has soured at St. James’ Park as Alexander Isak’s refusal to play and desire to leave rocked the club.

Isak’s strike comes during a summer in which Eddie Howe has seen Newcastle miss out on a string of his top transfer targets, too. They did manage to replace Isak successfully though with Nick Woltemade hitting the ground running since his move to Tyneside, and Yoane Wissa showing signs that he can star too following an injury.

Anthony Elanga, Park Seung-soo, Aaron Ramsdale, Malick Thiaw and Jacob Ramsey were all recruited too.

New arrivals coupled with some players swapping means there are several new squad numbers this season and here’s the complete list. And there’s still plenty of numbers available for potential signings during the winter window too…

YOU are in control – who are you signing?

It's obvious what Newcastle United need in January. Now you have the money to spend. Use it wisely!

1 – Nick Pope

Previously worn by: Martin Dubravka, Rob Elliot, Tim Krul, Steve Harper, Shay Given, Pavel Srnicek.

After years of being No.22, Nick Pope finally claimed the No.1 shirt this summer following Martin Dubravka’s exit.

Given Newcastle tried to sign James Trafford all summer, he might be surprised to still be first choice.

2 – Kieran Trippier

Previously worn by: Ciaran Clark, Fabricio Coloccini, Stephen Carr, Andy Griffin, Warren Barton.

Despite continued rumours that an exit could be on the cards, old reliable Kieran Trippier continues to be Newcastle’s No.2.

3 – Lewis Hall

Previously worn by: Paul Dummett, Curtis Good, Davide Santon, Jose Enrique, Robbie Elliott, Marcelino, Stuart Pearce.

After dazzling at left-back last season, Lewis Hall has earned a number upgrade and has fittingly chosen No.3, becoming the first player to wear it at Newcastle since Paul Dummett.

4 – Sven Botman

Previously worn by: Matty Longstaff, Sung-yueng Ki, Jack Colback, Ryan Taylor, Yohan Cabaye, Kevin Nolan, David Rozehnal, Nolberto Solano, Nicky Butt.

Sven Botman has been Newcastle’s No.4 since signing for the club and hopefully he’ll be fit enough to wear it more often this season.

5 – Fabian Schar

Previously worn by: Grant Hanley, Georginio Wijnaldum, Danny Simpson, Sol Campbell, Fitz Hall, Emre, Alan O’Brien, Nikolaos Dabizas, Andrew O’Brien.

Fabian Schar is into his seventh season as a Magpie and continues to wear No.5 with distinction.

6 – Jamaal Lascelles

Previously worn by: Mike Williamson, Claudio Cacapa, Jean-Alain Boumsong, Aaron Hughes, Nolberto Solano, Clarence Acuna.

After it originally appeared Jamaal Lascelles would be released in the summer, his contract was quietly renewed so Newcastle’s longest-serving player will remain as No.6.

7 – Joelinton

Previously worn by: Andy Carroll, Jacob Murphy, Achraf Lazaar, Moussa Sissoko, Joey Barton, Albert Luque, Jermaine Jenas, Rob Kee, Kieron Dyer.

Joelinton has sported No.7 since his ill-fated stint wearing No.9 was brought to an end in 2021.

8 – Sandro Tonali

Previously worn by: Anthony Gordon, Jonjo Shelvey, Vurnon Anita, Danny Guthrie, Craig Bellamy, Kieron Dyer, Diego Gavilan, Franck Dumas, Stephane Guivarc’h, Ian Rush, Peter Beardsley.

Sandro Tonali had a fantastic campaign last time out wearing No.8 and will be aiming to repeat the feat this year.

9 – Yoane Wissa

Previously worn by: Callum Wilson, Joelinton, Salomon Rondon, Dwight Gayle, Papiss Demba Cisse, Andy Carroll, Obafemi Martins, Alan Shearer, Les Ferdinand, Andrew Cole.

After Nick Woltemade raised eyebrows by turning down the number, the famous No.9 was finally claimed by deadline day signing Yoane Wissa.

10 – Anthony Gordon

Previously worn by: Allan Saint-Maximin, Mohamed Diame, Siem de Jong, Hatem Ben Arfa, Stephen Ireland, Wayne Routledge, Marlon Harewood, Michael Owen, Craig Bellamy.

Anthony Gordon originally chose No.8 when he signed for Newcastle but soon swapped for No.10 once it became available.

11 – Harvey Barnes

Previously worn by: Matt Ritchie, Yoan Gouffran, Peter Lovenkrands, Damien Duff, Lee Bowyer, Patrick Kluivert, Gary Speed, Faustino Asprilla.

Harvey Barnes also had a different number upon first signing for the club in January. He was briefly No.15 before choosing No.11 the following summer.

12 – Malick Thiaw

Previously worn by: Jamal Lewis, Dwight Gayle, Martin Dubravka, Jonjo Shelvey, Danny Simpson, Sebastien Bassong, Steve Harper.

New centre-back signing Thiaw picked No.12 upon signing for the club from AC Milan.

13 – Matt Targett

Previously worn by: Callum Wilson, Yoshinori Muto, Islam Slimani, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, Mehdi Abeid, Zurab Khizanishvili.

Matt Targett continues to be the club’s No.13 and will be hoping for more game time this season.

14 –

Previously worn by: Alexander Isak,Isaac Hayden, Gabriel Obertan, Jack Colback, Loic Remy, James Perch, Patrick van Aanholt, Charles N’Zogbia, Michael Bridges.

Alexander Isak’s deadline day exit to Liverpool means the No.14 is free again for any new signings.

15 –

Previously worn by: Harvey Barnes, Kieran Trippier, Jamal Lewis, Jetro Willems, Kenedy, Mohamed Diame, Jamaal Lascelles, Facundo Ferreyra, Dan Gosling, Ignacio Gonzalez, Lamine Diatta, Nolberto Solano, Oguchi Onyewu, Giuseppe Rossi, Abdoulaye Faye.

Barnes was Newcastle’s last No.15 and the shirt remains up for grabs for any further summer signings.

16 –

Previously worn by: Jeff Hendrick, Rolando Aarons, Ryan Taylor, James Milner, Olivier Bernard, Carl Cort.

Newcastle have been without a No.16 for even longer but the digit could be an appealing option for any more new arrivals to the North East.

17 – Emil Krafth

Previously worn by: Ayoze Perez, Romaine Amalfitano, Alan Smith, Scott Parker, Darren Ambrose.

After signing a one-year contract extension last season, Emil Krafth will remain Newcastle’s No.17 for the season.

18 – William Osula

Previously worn by: Loris Karius, Federico Fernandez, Chancel Mbemba, Luuk de Jong, Jonas Gutierrez, Craig Moore, Christian Bassedas.

William Osula was handed No.18 following his move from Sheffield United in 2024.

19 –

Previously worn by: Odysseas Vlachodimos, Javier Manquillo, Massadio Haidara, Demba Ba, Xisco, Titus Bramble, Stephen Glass.

Odysseas Vlachodimos was assigned the No.19 last season but wasn’t given one this season before his loan exit to Sevilla was confirmed. It’s presumably available to new signings.

20 – Anthony Elanga

Previously worn by: Lewis Hall, Chris Wood, Florian Lejeune, Yoan Gouffran, Florian Thauvin, Remy Cabella, Gael Bigirimana, Leon Best, Geremi, Antoine Sibierski, Albert Luque, Lomana LuaLua, Duncan Ferguson.

Elanga was the summer’s first arrival and had his pick of the available numbers, opting for the No.20 left available by Hall’s switch to No.3.

21 – Tino Livramento

Previously worn by: Ryan Fraser, Rob Elliot, Joselu, Fraser Forster, Fabrice Pancrate, Habib Beye, Lee Clark.

Unlike Hall, Tino Livramento won’t be getting a number upgrade this season and remains No.21.

22 –

Previously worn by: Nick Pope, DeAndre Yedlin, Daryl Janmaat, Sylvain Marveaux, Stephen Ireland, Nicky Butt, Jamie McClen.

Pope’s move to No.1 means his old No.22 is now free for the first time since 2022.

23 – Jacob Murphy

Previously worn by: Valentino Lazaro, Antonio Barreca, Mikel Merino, Henri Saivet, Haris Vuckic, Shola Ameobi.

Though he has previously worn No.7 at the club, Jacob Murphy changed to No.23 some years ago and it has served him well. The winger enjoyed a career-best season last term.

24 –

Previously worn by: Miguel Almiron, Henri Saivet, Conor Newton, Cheik Tiote, Andy Carroll, Peter Lovenkrands, Pavel Srnicek, Tony Caig.

Miguel Almiron’s return to Atlanta United in January left his No.24 shirt available and it’s still up for grabs.

25 –

Previously worn by: Lloyd Kelly, Jamie Sterry, Massadio Haidara, Andros Townsend, Gabriel Obertan, Kazenga LuaLua, Abdoulaye Faye, Ronny Johnsen, Brian Kerr.

Lloyd Kelly wore No.25 last season but not much, as he hardly played before heading to Juventus on loan and then signing permanently for them in the summer.

26 – John Ruddy

Previously worn by: Karl Darlow, Mathieu Debuchy, Tim Krul, Peter Ramage.

John Ruddy is the club’s No.26, fitting for a third choice goalkeeper.

27 – Nick Woltemade

Previously worn by: Freddie Woodman, Henri Saivet, Jesus Gamez, Steven Taylor, Jonathan Woodgate.

Record signing Nick Woltemade claimed the No.27 shirt when everyone was expecting to claim the available No.9. Instead, he became the first No.27 since 2022 and became its second notable wearer after Steven Taylor.

28 – Joe Willock

Previously worn by: Danny Rose, Matz Sels, Seydou Doumbia, Sammy Ameobi, Tamas Kadar, Michael Chopra, Paul Robinson.

The No.28 remains firmly in the grasp of midfielder Joe Willock for another campaign.

29 – Mark Gillespie

Previously worn by: Nathan Harker, Haris Vuckic, Emmanuel Riviere, Haris Vuckic, Fabio Zamblera.

Mark Gillespie is into his fifth season as Newcastle’s No.29 and might be holding out hope to add to his three appearances.

30 – Harrison Ashby

Previously worn by: Harrison Ashby, Christian Atsu, Mehdi Abeid, Nile Ranger, David Edgar.

Harrison Ashby has retained the No.30 shirt he was assigned before joining QPR last season on loan. It remains to be seen whether he will head out on loan again.

31 – Max Thompson

Previously worn by: Kell Watts, Sylvain Marveaux, Jak Alnwick, Shane Ferguson, Frank Wiafe, Stuart Green, Keith Gillespie.

Young goalkeeper Max Thompson spent last season on loan at Chesterfield but is once again No.31.

32 – Aaron Ramsdale (on loan from Southampton)

Previously worn by: Garang Kuol, Elliot Anderson, Dan Barlaser, Adam Armstrong, Ryan Donaldson, Wesley Ngo Baheng, Paul Huntington, Laurent Robert.

Despite having lower options available, new goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale chose No.32 after completing his loan move from Southampton.

33 – Dan Burn

Previously worn by: Liam Gibson, Achraf Lazaar, Daryl Murphy, Curtis Good, Ole Soderberg, Celestine Babayaro, Adam Collin.

Big Dan Burn has made No.33 iconic at Newcastle and there was no chance he was swapping it now.

37 – Alex Murphy

Previously worn by: Callum Roberts, Stuart Findlay, Lubomir Satka, Steve Harper, Hatem Ben Arfa, Callum Morris, James Troisi.

Alex Murphy is back at Newcastle after his loan at Bolton Wanderers and is again No.37.

39 – Bruno Guimaraes

Previously worn by: Mehdi Abeid, Andy Carroll, Martin Brittain, Helder Cristovao.

Captain fantastic Bruno Guimaraes has worn No.39 for the duration of his time at the club.

40 – Joe White (out on loan)

Previously worn by: Callum Williams, Olivier Kemen, Tamas Kadar, Michael Richardson, Tim Krul, Andreas Andersson.

Joe White was given No.40 during pre-season but he has headed back out on loan, this time to Leyton Orient.

64 – Park Seung-soo

Previously worn by: Jeff Henderson

It was initially expected that young winger Park Seung-soo would immediately be sent on loan after signing for the club but his impressive pre-season cameos have changed that plan.

Instead, the South Korean has been handed No.64 and could play a part in Howe’s plans this season.

67 – Lewis Miley

Previously worn by: No one.

Finally, teenage midfielder Lewis Miley remains No.67 instead of opting for a big upgrade that reflects his status in the squad.
