Eddie Howe has given an update on Jacob Murphy’s injury status ahead of Newcastle United vs Leeds United.

The winger started Newcastle United’s 2-0 win over Crystal Palace, but was unable to complete the full 90 minutes.

Jacob Murphy was forced off with a hamstring injury, with Eddie Howe replacing him with Joe Willock in the 88th minute.

Now the Newcastle United manager has provided a further update on Murphy, who could be fit enough to feature against Leeds on Wednesday night.

“He’s had a scan,” Howe said.

“It’s good news. No major injury. It was probably fatigue. His physical numbers in the game were outstanding.

“I think he will be available [against Leeds] at the moment. It will be a late decision for us. Fingers crossed.”

Eddie Howe offers Anthony Elanga injury update

While Murphy has a chance of being involved against Leeds, the same does not go for Anthony Elanga.

The £55million signing has missed the Magpies’ last three games through injury, and Howe has confirmed that he will not be involved on Wednesday night.

“Anthony Elanga is not quite there yet,” he said.

“We keep thinking the next game but it’s taking longer in the final stages. He won’t be long but not this one.”

That update could open the door for Harvey Barnes to come into the starting XI. Howe may be unwilling to risk Murphy so soon after the Crystal Palace game, while Barnes was impressive in his cameo on Sunday.

Barnes will hope to play on the left wing, but that position currently belongs to Anthony Gordon despite his stuttering form.
