Several Newcastle United players have unanimously agreed on who their slowest teammate is, and the answer is shocking.
The Magpies are known for having young, agile players. It is difficult to pick out who would be the slowest out of them.
Many would be quick to name Newcastle United’s hero Dan Burn as the slowest player in the team, given his stature. The 33-year-old comes in at 6ft 7in and is known more for his ability to head a ball and fearlessness than for making a run through the opponents’ defence.

Burn became a Newcastle hero after scoring a terrific header against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final. Arne Slot admitted that Burn’s goal was unique, claiming he had never seen a header like his scored before.
Additionally, Burn has inspired Jacob Murphy after his England call-up. The winger has been brilliant for Newcastle this season and will surely be in contention for a place in Thomas Tuchel’s next squad.
While many may believe Burn is the slowest, several Newcastle players have made a shocking claim about who actually holds that title.

Matt Targett named the slowest Newcastle United player
Matt Targett has a very limited role in Newcastle’s first-team squad this season. Injuries, coupled with Lewis Hall’s tremendous form have kept him out of the squad and limited him to just two brief Premier League appearances.
At the end of April, Howe confirmed Targett may miss the rest of the season after picking up a hamstring injury.
While the 29-year-old recovers from his setback, his Newcastle teammates have given him no sympathy after naming him the slowest player on the team.
In a video for Sky Sports, Targett, Callum Wilson, Emil Krafth, Tino Livramento and William Osula were asked to rank themselves from slowest to fastest.
Almost immediately, Krafth said: “he’s [Targett] the slowest, 100%.”
Targett put up no fight and moved himself over to the slowest section.
Matt Targett’s Newcastle United career could be coming to an end
With a lack of appearances this season, it looks like Targett’s time on Tyneside is nearing its conclusion. The left-back joined the Magpies on an initial loan spell in 2022. His impressive performances earned him a permanent move that summer, but he has never been able to solidify his place in the starting XI over the three years he has been with the team.
Last season saw Targett miss the majority of the campaign with a hamstring and Achilles tendon injury, allowing Hall to establish himself as ready for more Premier League appearances.
In 2025, Targett is likely to leave Newcastle in the summer transfer window. It looked like the 29-year-old was set to leave the Magpies during the January transfer window, where a return to former club Southampton was on the cards.
However, the move never materialised and Targett has remained a Newcastle player for the rest of the season.
