Jacob Murphy has hailed one of his Newcastle United teammates as a ‘great inspiration’ in a recent interview.
The Magpies’ star has had to play in difficult circumstances this season, but that has not stopped him from finding unpredictable form.
Eight Premier League goals coupled with 11 assists is Jacob Murphy’s best-ever attacking return since joining Newcastle United in 2017, and he shows no sign of stopping with three games left in the season.
Newcastle take on Chelsea at St James’ Park on Sunday, where Toon boss Eddie Howe will hope that Murphy can add to their attacking returns and push them closer to Champions League qualification.
At the beginning of the season, Murphy may not have predicted he would play as much football as he has. However, the sale of Yankuba Minteh coincided with Miguel Almiron’s severe drop in form. Howe had no other options but to give Murphy much more game time.
With Thomas Tuchel set to name another England squad in June, Murphy has shared what he believes his chances of a call-up are.

Jacob Murphy wants to copy Newcastle United teammate Dan Burn’s England feat
Very few could have predicted the season Dan Burn has had with Newcastle. The 33-year-old is living the dream on Tyneside, playing weekly for his boyhood club.
Burn scored for Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final with a sensational header that shocked many. Just a couple of days before that memorable moment, Burn was named in Thomas Tuchel’s first England squad.
The defender made his debut at Wembley against Albania and nearly scored another remarkable header in the first half.
Burn’s unimaginable achievement has rubbed off on his Newcastle teammates, with Murphy admitting he wants to do the same as the big man from Blyth has.
“Dan has not only been a really good friend but he’s been a great inspiration for myself and a lot of people in the dressing room,” Murphy told BBC Sport.
“To see him getting the accolades and for people to really appreciate him as a player at 32, that is added incentive.
“Dreams of playing international football can still be there. Credit to the new manager for putting faith in Dan at such an age. Hopefully people at 30 aren’t being overlooked. 30 is the new 25!
“It’s something I can see. But I know taking care of my club form is going to give me the best opportunity to represent my country.”
Jacob Murphy achieved his dream by joining Newcastle United
Whatever happens in the transfer market this summer, Murphy can say he lived the dream by joining his boyhood club, playing weekly and scoring goals.
Winning the Carabao Cup will be a personal highlight for Murphy; his contributions in the biggest games made the difference.
Murphy’s Newcastle future looked bleak under Steve Bruce, but he has recaptured his form under Eddie Howe and proved to many why he should have been backed.

Speaking about joining Newcastle in the same BBC Sport interview, Murphy said: “”Everyone needs their own individual journey of weird and wonderful things to find themselves.
“You have a crossroads situation where your career will go one of two ways. I vow to always choose the better path.
“My agent let me know Newcastle were interested. I was like, ‘come on, let’s get this done’.
“Once you know the team you supported has come in for you it makes it an easy decision. To look down and constantly have the Newcastle crest on your shirt is amazing.”
