Eddie Howe’s transfer record at Newcastle United is almost impeccable.
Since the change of ownership at St James’ Park, Newcastle United have barely missed a beat in the transfer market.
Pretty much every signing has been a success, or at least served a purpose. While Chris Wood’s Newcastle career was not perfect, he played an important role during a difficult period for Eddie Howe’s side.
Matt Targett is probably the only signing that can go down as a disappointment. He has had a lot of fitness issues since his loan move became permanent for £15million in 2022.
Newcastle United willing to buy players from overseas
When it comes to Howe’s signings as Newcastle United manager, a lot of them have arrived from English clubs.

Howe has prioritised Premier League experience at times, while options from further afield have been overlooked. It has occasionally been a source of frustration for Newcastle United fans, who have seen exceptional players pass the club by.
However, the i Paper report that Newcastle United will be utilising the foreign market this summer, as they aim to find better value.
The i Paper add that club insiders insist that Howe has no problems with signing players from overseas, describing the idea that he only wants domestic-based players as ‘overblown’.
Where Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United signings have come from
There is value to signing players with Premier League experience. They are likely to have an earlier impact, but they do come at a higher cost.
Those factors will have to be considered this summer, with various Premier League talents on the Magpies’ radar.
Newcastle want Liam Delap from Ipswich Town, while their centre-back search sees Newcastle interested in Marc Guehi again.
However, Howe is no stranger to dipping into the European market. In fact, some of his best players have came from clubs outside of the Premier League.

Alexander Isak is Newcastle’s most expensive signing, arriving from Real Sociedad for £63million.
Newcastle bought Sandro Tonali too, with Howe pushing to bring him to St James’ Park from AC Milan.
Bruno Guimaraes and Sven Botman joined from Lyon and Lille respectively, while Paul Mitchell is signing youngsters from Spain and Georgia in Antonio Cordero and Vakhtang Salia.
Howe is not strict when it comes to where his signings come from. The main factors are that they suit the way he wants to play and are willing to work hard to improve.
