Eddie Howe will be delighted with Newcastle United’s current run of form.
It’s five Premier League wins in a row following Newcastle’s win at Tottenham on Saturday. The Magpies have looked unstoppable in recent weeks – putting their slow start to the season behind them.
Alexander Isak’s goals in seven consecutive Premier League games puts him joint highest in Newcastle’s history alongside Toon legend Alan Shearer and Joe Willock.
Signs that the form which helped Newcastle qualify for the Champions League again look to be back – the Magpies sit fifth in the Premier League, just one point off Chelsea in fourth.
There’s still hope that fifth place will be enough to qualify for Europe through the UEFA Coefficient rules, but that depends on the English club’s performances in the European competitions.

While Newcastle continue their rich vein of form, fans have noticed something that puts them above any other top-flight club in history.

Newcastle set record for run of early goals
Newcastle have made a habit of scoring early in games in recent weeks. As a result of that, the Magpies are now the first top-flight club to score in the opening nine minutes of a game in five consecutive matches.
Anthony Gordon recently cited a mentality shift following Newcastle’s win against Aston Villa on Boxing Day.
Speaking on Newcastle’s website, Gordon said: “The early goals [are crucial], because teams have to go out then and press us – that’s when we can start pressing and do our stuff.”
Gordon was one of the Newcastle players who scored early – After just 80 seconds he found the next against Villa. He added to his tally again against Tottenham putting his total to five for the season.
There was concern when Gordon collided with Dejan Kulusevski during the win which left him a bloody mess, he was able to carry on for another 19 minutes, however.
Newcastle still lack diverse Premier League goal scorers
Despite their recent success in front of goal recently, Newcastle still lack different goal scorers. Seven Newcastle players have scored in the Premier League this season, joint fewest with Everton.
It’s not a cause for concern for Howe, but it soon could be should the likes of Gordon or Alexander Isak be suspended or injured.
Among the list of scorers are Gordon, Isak, Barnes, Joelinton, Fabian Schar, Jacob Murphy and Bruno Guimaraes.
