Newcastle United fans voice major concerns with official statement coming out of the club

Newcastle United fans have found more cause for complaint after the club released an official statement on Friday.

When it rains, it pours, and St. James’ Park must be looking like Atlantis at this point with all the trouble Newcastle United have faced this summer.

Not since the Mike Ashley era has morale been so low among fans, with all the excitement gained by securing Champions League football frittered away.

Supporters have watched the club’s incompetence in the transfer window with shock, as several big targets, like James Trafford and Benjamin Sesko, have passed them by.

Selling Sean Longstaff without a midfield replacement in place hasn’t gone down well, nor has Alexander Isak’s public desire to join Liverpool, understandably.

With so much going wrong, more complaints are never hard to find, and now Newcastle fans have expressed concern over the fate of one player they have managed to sign this summer, Antonio Cordero.

Antonio Cordero secures loan exit from Newcastle United

Exciting Spanish winger Cordero was Newcastle’s first summer signing, arriving on a free from Malaga.

The youngster was always set to go out on loan to further his development, with Newcastle viewing him as a prospect for the future.

Now Cordero has sealed his move, with Newcastle saying in an official statement: “Newcastle United winger Antonio Cordero has joined Belgian Pro League side KVC Westerlo for the 2025/26 season.

“The 18-year-old joined the Magpies in July upon the expiry of his contract at Malaga, after making 60 senior appearances for the Spanish team including 37 last season in La Liga 2.

“Cordero represented his country this summer at the UEFA Under-19 Championships and played a key role as Spain reached the final before ultimately finishing as runners-up to the Netherlands, starting four of their five matches in the tournament.

“The teenager now moves to KVC Westerlo who finished 9th in the Belgian top-flight in the 2024/25 season and everybody at Newcastle United wishes Antonio well for the upcoming campaign.”

However, the news hasn’t gone down well.

Newcastle fans not happy with Antonio Cordero loan destination

Though the move seemingly has little impact on the affairs of Eddie Howe’s side, some fans have expressed displeasure with the announcement.

Users on X flocked to the replies of Newcastle’s post about the move to complain about the level of club Cordero has joined.

“Sounds like such a bad loan to be tested out,” user @JustJoseph30 wrote and his thoughts were echoed by @scottwilson1984, who said: “What happened to Ajax? These sorts of moves seem pointless.

“Probably be better off staying in Britain, even if he ends up in Championship or League 1”

Other fans even called into question the job that the club’s loan manager, Newcastle legend Shola Ameobi, is doing.

“Gonna develop great in the Belgian league, isn’t he? What happened to him heading straight out on loan to Ajax?” @MiserableVencha sarcastically asked. “Waste of time. Shola masterclass?”

There was more sarcasm from @nufcmanna, who posted: “Another loan where our player gains NO experience,” with several love heart eye emojis.

“Shola working his magic sending out our youth to unknown teams,” @ACmbe1 complained.

Though Westerlo might not be well known on British shores, they still compete in the top flight of Belgian football, which will be a step up from the second division in Spain for Cordero.

However, fans have a right to be concerned over his development given the likes of Miodrag Pivas, Travis Hernes and Garang Kuol have endured difficult loans with limited game time in recent years.
