Newcastle United’s record signing Nick Woltemade struggled as Germany were beaten 2-0 against Slovakia on Thursday evening.
While the Magpies do not play for another eight days, there are several players in action for their national teams.
Bruno Guimaraes was sensational for Brazil, scoring his second international goal in a 3-0 win against Chile on Friday morning, while the likes of Sandro Tonali and Anthony Elanga expected to be part of the action for Italy and Sweden, respectively.
Thursday also had many Newcastle United fans on Nick Woltemade watch, with their new striker starting for Germany against Slovakia. Unfortunately, Woltemade struggled to make an impact as Germany were beaten 2-0 in Bratislava.
German media were critical of Woltemade, but Newcastle fans have a different opinion.

Newcastle United fans say Nick Woltemade lacked the right service for Germany
After the defeat, German fans thought Woltemade was poor. The £69m striker played all 90 minutes for his national side, failing to register a shot on target.
Despite that, Newcastle fans believe Woltemade’s performance was down to a lack of quality service, rather than anything of his own doing.
“I’m hoping Newcastle can provide better service for Woltemade than that German side last night, what a shower of s—,” said one fan on social media platform X, while another added: “Overall, a very frustrating night for him – mainly because Germany created very little and isolated him for much of the game, up against two rugged centre-halves.”
This fan believed Germany’s tactics were all wrong for Woltemade, saying: “A striker that likes to play with the ball at his feet in Woltemade, so what do Germany do? Pump balls 12 feet in the air to him all game. Get him back to Tyneside, so Eddie can get him ready for Wolves, man.”
“Frustrating watch. A few glimpses where you can see he’s good with the ball to feet. Germany shocked me; they looked so poor in general,” said this annoyed Newcastle fan.
Another fan added: “Still got confidence in Woltemade. No one on that German side looked good, none. Not a good game to judge the ceiling of a player, Germany need to get Musiala back, they’re a different team without him.”
Finally, this Newcastle fan said: “Woltemade had no service at all, and we know he isn’t the best header of the ball. The Slovaks had 2 on him all the time so he just couldn’t get going. I could tell from this that he will give 110% for Newcastle in every game.”

When is Nick Woltemade next in action for Germany?
After the shock defeat to Slovakia, there is no doubt Woltemade and Germany will be keen to get back out there and put in a much better performance.
They only have a few days to wait before getting back into the action.
Germany take on Northern Ireland at the RheinEnergieStadion in Cologne on Sunday, where they will have the opportunity to pick up their first points in the World Cup qualifier groups.
It is unknown whether Woltemade will be in the starting XI after his 90 minutes on Thursday, but he should be involved in some way back on home soil.
Alan Shearer believes Woltemade is a ‘risk’ for Newcastle, but he can still bring a lot once he gets up to speed with Eddie Howe’s style of play.
