Germany fans on social media were not happy with Newcastle United’s new star Nick Woltemade on Thursday night.
While Newcastle United will hope to see the very best of Woltemade following his club-record move from Stuttgart late last month, he endured a difficult night for his country.
Indeed, Germany lost 2-0 away at Slovakia in a qualifier for the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Woltemade started for Germany but was unable to have much of an impact during a dismal night for Julian Nagelsmann’s side.
It would be fair to say German football fans were unhappy about Newcastle United’s club record signing.

Germany fans unhappy with Nick Woltemade
It’s important to note that this looked like a collective failing for Germany. It was not Woltemade alone who struggled and he’s still getting up to speed with international football.
As talented as he is, this was only his third cap. Expecting too much too soon would be unwise, particularly given Germany’s struggles as a whole over the last few years.
Still, fans on social media platform X were unhappy.
One supporter wrote: “[Joshua] Kimmich should have played right back…no playmaker involved…[Florian] Wirtz and Woltemade were left hanging in the air…no greed, no passion….Congratulations Slovakia.”
Another added: “What should we do if your €100 and €150m player Woltemade Wirtz are invisible.”
Further comments are below.
“Woltemade had zero ball contacts.”
“Disappointing, Woltemade overrated.”
“We totally scammed the Premier League with Wirtz and Woltemade.”
Eddie Howe’s plans for Nick Woltemade at Newcastle United
Eddie Howe is excited to work with Woltemade at Newcastle and while paying such a big fee for a player does bring a certain degree of pressure, he has time to develop at St James’ Park.
Woltemade should be delighted that Newcastle signed Yoane Wissa, as having an experienced Premier League operator to lean on will be a major help.
Newcastle have to be patient with Woltemade. He’s a work in progress and does not arrive with a huge amount of experience.
According to The Daily Mail, Newcastle plan to lean on Wissa while Woltemade develops under Howe.
