Joelinton has attracted a rather angry response from Newcastle United fans on social media following Sunday’s Premier League defeat at West Ham.
Newcastle United deservedly lost to West Ham despite taking the lead through Jacob Murphy. In truth, the 3-1 scoreline did nothing but flatter Eddie Howe’s side.
Placing the blame on one player would of course be too much. Howe criticised his Newcastle players following the loss to West Ham and the problems were collective rather than individual.
Still, following such a poor performance, emotions are certainly high. Joelinton, who has this season struggled to scale heights he has previously reached, was one of the major talking points.

Newcastle United fans want Jacob Ramsey to replace Joelinton
Fans on social media platform X were rather critical of the Brazilian.
He wasn’t alone in struggling but his form this season as a whole is increasingly becoming a point of discussion as Newcastle fans pick through their growing list of problems.
Fans want to see Jacob Ramsey come in to replace him going forward. Lewis Miley and Joe Willock are other options, although the former Aston Villa star appears to be the man getting the nod for now.
One fan wrote: “Joelinton should only play against teams we need a bit of grit in midfield offers a lot less than Ramsey going forward.”
Another claimed: “Ramsey should have started today instead of Joelinton, that has to be Joelinton’s worst performance for us.”
“Joelinton needs dropping,” said another fan. Ramsey and/or Miley deserve their chance.
The £43million problem breathing down Joelinton’s neck at Newcastle United
Newcastle United’s £43million deal to sign Ramsey puts a lot of pressure on Joelinton right now.
Indeed, Newcastle think Ramsey can develop into a regular England international, such is their respect for his talents.
To do that, however, he needs game time. While injury hasn’t helped, Ramsey has started only three games so far this season.
Joelinton has been a fine player for Newcastle over the years and there’s nothing to suggest he cannot play a role going forward. Right now, however, he needs to come out of the firing line.
Now Ramsey is fully fit again and with Miley chomping at the bit to get a chance in the starting lineup, it would be a genuine surprise if Howe doesn’t take action.
