Newcastle United will travel to Wembley in March with a chance to win the Carabao Cup against Liverpool.

Toon boss Eddie Howe is focused on the upcoming game against West Ham United on Monday, but then it’s all eyes on the final as Newcastle United aim to end a 56-year wait for a major trophy.

Newcastle’s trophy cabinet has looked bare for decades and although they recently added the Sela Cup to it, fans are eager to see them add something more reputable.

By no means will the Carabao Cup final be an easy task, Anthony Gordon is suspended and defensive duo Lewis Hall and Sven Botman are injured meaning the Magpies will be forced to play with a completely different left-hand side.

Howe has the opportunity to experiment with a different left side against West Ham on Monday, with the likes of Harvey Barnes and Matt Targett tipped to take the available spots.

Former Newcastle owner Amanda Staveley will be at the Carabao Cup final after confirming she had a ticket during a recent trip back to Tyneside. With one of the club’s most influential figures returning, fans have taken to social media to celebrate the news.

Newcastle United fans react to Amanda Staveley’s announcement

Despite leaving last summer, Staveley has still followed Newcastle from afar. The former owner regularly congratulates the team on her social media account, most recently when they beat Arsenal to reach the Carabao Cup final in February.

Merhdad Ghodoussi, her husband, is also active on social media. Ghodoussi thanked Miguel Almiron after it was revealed he was leaving Newcastle for Atlanta United in the MLS.

With the news that Staveley and Ghodoussi will be at the cup final, fans took to X to react.

“I always did love Amanda’s work ethic and passion it got me inspired in my club again I will never forget her and what she did for this club and its great she wants to speak with people at the club and cheer us on at the final huge respect.” said one fan, while another added: “This woman never gave up on the club, three years she chased it and got it.”

This fan looked back to her transparency while at the club, saying: “I know maybe financially her leaving the club was for the best but we miss her communication and enthusiasm.”

“Wonderful woman. What a contribution she made. If she had a weakness it was too much passion for the club. She was and is a superfan.” added this happy Newcastle fan.

Another fan added: “The club got things done when she and her husband were at the helm. Since they left, things have stagnated because nobody can be bothered to do anything.”

Finally, this Newcastle fan said: “Great and I hope the fans show her support.”

Amanda Staveley could be Newcastle United’s good luck charm

Staveley was and still is adored by Newcastle fans for her commitment to buying the club and her transparency during her time as a director.

Things didn’t end on the best terms for Staveley at Newcastle, with her spending in transfer windows coming back to haunt the club who were forced to sell Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh to avoid a points deduction.

However, her return to a Newcastle game could be a positive one and something that motivates the Magpies to go out and bring the cup back to Tyneside.

Staveley watched Newcastle at Wembley in 2023 alongside Toon chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan. They lost that day but, it could be a completely different story the second time around.
