Newcastle United fans on social media are buzzing about the fact the club have decided not to wear their green kit against Brentford on Sunday.
While Newcastle United beat Athletic Bilbao in the Champions League on Wednesday night, the biggest test of Eddie Howe’s side will come on Sunday in west London.
Indeed, Brentford host Newcastle United in the Premier League and a response is needed from Howe and his players following the dreadful defeat at West Ham last weekend.
Newcastle’s poor away form has been a major talking point of late. Such is their dismal record on the road, supporters could be forgiven for starting to dread away trips.
Furthermore, Newcastle’s awful record in their green kit has been discussed. It’s going to the point where some fans are joking that it’s a curse.
With that in mind, a hint from the club on X (formerly Twitter) went down very well among fans online.

Newcastle United fans delighted they won’t be wearing green kit against Brentford
Ahead of the game, the club posted a graphic which delighted supporters.
It showed Jacob Ramsey in action, wearing the club’s blue third kit, rather than the green strip to have served the team reasonably poorly over recent years.
“Look at the Kit…we are gonna win!!!” wrote one fan.
Another added: “No green jersey finally!”
One fan said: “No green kit. Means more to me than 3 points.”
On Newcastle United’s official club shop website, the club confirmed that the blue third kit would return “this weekend”.
Newcastle United’s record in blue third kit this season
The only game Newcastle have played in blue this season ended in a disappointing 0-0 draw away at Leeds in August.
Clearly, it won’t matter what the team are wearing if Howe’s side perform like they did away at West Ham last weekend.
Still, it’s natural that supporters would be pleased they aren’t going to be wearing the green kit away at Brentford. Everything from the West Ham game needed to change, and swapping the strip is a notable way of starting that process.
Howe’s side wearing Newcastle’s 2025/26 third kit will hopefully bring about a change on the road…
