Eddie Howe can fix Newcastle United’s away form, but there are some things that are beyond his control.
He will have felt helpless watching his team on Sunday, as Newcastle United lost 3-1 to West Ham. His side were incredibly poor, throwing away all of the momentum they had built up in recent weeks.
Unsurprisingly, Eddie Howe was not happy with his team after the game. They let him down, while they also let down the fans who had travelled to the London Stadium.
The defeat continued Newcastle United’s poor run away from home in the Premier League, while it also extended their poor record in green.

Newcastle United’s record wearing green since the PIF takeover
Since the PIF takeover, Newcastle United’s away kits have included a nod to Saudi Arabia. During two of PIF’s four full seasons at St James’ Park, one of the Magpies’ away kits has been green.
Unfortunately it is a colour that has not served Newcastle and Eddie Howe well in either season.
During the 2023/24 season, Newcastle wore a green kit made by Castore on six occasions. They only won wearing it twice, with wins coming on the road against Fulham and Brentford. It also produced defeats to Brighton, Bournemouth and Borussia Dortmund, plus a draw with Wolves.
The 2025/26 season has seen the return of the green kit, this time made by Adidas. Despite a different kit provider, the results have been just as poor.
The Magpies have worn green four times already this season, losing two and drawing two.
It feels like there is a curse hanging over Newcastle whenever they don their green kit, and there is nothing Eddie Howe can do to stop it.
When Newcastle United could next wear green
Worryingly, Toon fans could see their side play in green again as early as this Sunday.
Newcastle United are away to Brentford this weekend, and will almost certainly wear one of their away kits because of a clash. That could mean another outing for the green shirt, as they wore it when they faced the Bees away during the 2023/24 season.

However, that remains the only Premier League game that Newcastle have won in green during the PIF era. So perhaps this will be when Howe stops the rot.
That will hopefully be the case, as it is vital that the Magpies pick up three points heading into the November international break.
