Newcastle United fans are all saying the same thing about Lewis Hall after his Player of the Match display

Lewis Hall sent a strong message to Eddie Howe with a superb performance for England’s Under-21 side.

The 20-year-old has started twice this season – in Newcastle United’s Premier League opener and in the League Cup clash against Nottingham Forest.

Lewis Hall signed permanently for Newcastle in a £28m deal this summer but he has faced competition for his left-back spot from fellow summer signing Lloyd Kelly.

Howe has preferred to start Kelly at left-back in the Premier League, and even when Lewis Hall did start against Southampton he was replaced by Kelly in the second half.

But Hall is not backing down from the fight and his incredible display for England’s Under-21s against Austria’s Under-21s will surely have caught Howe’s eye.

Lewis Hall performance vs Austria

Hall was called up to England’s youth side for the international break and after missing out on a starting spot against Northern Ireland last Friday, he was named in the starting XI against Austria.

England – now managed by interim boss Ben Futcher after Lee Carsley’s promotion – put on a dominant display to win 4-1 at Kenilworth Road.

Morgan Rogers netted twice, followed by goals from James McAtee and Tom Fellows. But the Player of the Match award went to Hall after an outstanding performance from the left.

Hall finished the match with two assists after an electric attacking performance. He also boasted a 90 percent pass completion rate and won 66 percent of his duels.

Hall received praise from journalist Henry Winter after the match, who went on to suggest that Hall could soon become a senior England international.

Newcastle United fans react to Lewis Hall display

Newcastle fans flocked to social media to react to Hall’s incredible performance, and many were in agreement with Henry Winter that he is on track for a senior England call-up.

Supporters on X, formerly known as Twitter, piled praise on the Newcastle youngster.

One fan posted: “Lewis hall was outstanding tonight, still a lot to learn but he really will be something special”

Another added to the praise, saying: “Lewis Hall doing absolute bits! Proud of our boys on international duty, all of them have been absolutely outstanding!”

Others are expecting a call-up from Carsley sooner rather than later…

“A senior call-up for Lewis Hall can’t be too far away now, surely?” Posted one fan, while another said: “Class player, Nufc and England left-back for 10 years”.

The England shouts continued, with another posting: “I don’t think it will be long before we see him in the seniors, given the shortage of left-back options.”

Finally, one fan summed up Hall’s “outstanding” performance: “Both assists were class. His first touch passing was incredible, showing how good he is technically His stats and general game were outstanding.”
