Newcastle United recently confirmed they will be travelling to Singapore to play a pre-season game against Arsenal.

The Magpies are returning to the Far East after travelling to Japan ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, a move that proved to be a huge success.

Newcastle United played two pre-season games against Urawa Red Diamonds and Yokohama FC, beating the former but succumbing to a 2-0 defeat against the latter.

Plans are different going into the 2025/26 season, however, with Newcastle set to take on Arsenal on July 27th at Singapore’s 55,000-seater national stadium. There is no confirmed kick-off time as of yet.

Newcastle were set to go to Hong Kong for pre-season, but their spot was taken by Liverpool, who will play AC Milan at the Kai Tak Stadium.

As it stands, the Arsenal game is the only clash that has been confirmed by the club, but a new report has stated that another pre-season game is close to being signed off and announced.

Newcastle United set to announce new pre-season clash

With the Magpies nearing Champions League qualification, they are eager to play teams who will also be in the competition.

While they are in the Premier League, it makes sense for Newcastle to play Arsenal, as that is the level of team they will be playing if they qualify for Europe’s top tournament.

Plans for pre-season are still ongoing, the club are yet to announce whether there will be a third edition of the Sela Cup, which has previously seen Newcastle play two teams in consecutive days with different squads. Last season, Newcastle played Brest and Girona, two teams in the Champions League and could repeat the same feat this summer with similar opponents.

In the meantime, the club are looking to play more games away from St James’ Park. According to the Chronicle, Newcastle are close to confirming a friendly against Scottish Premiership giants Celtic.

The game is set to take place at Celtic Park, which has a capacity of around 60,000 and will be the first friendly at the ground since 2023.

The Magpies repeated a similar feat when they took on Rangers two years ago, that happened to be the non-competitive debut of Sandro Tonali, who had just arrived on Tyneside for £55m.

Newcastle United star could be playing for Celtic in pre-season friendly

The news that Newcastle are travelling to Scotland for a tasty pre-season friendly with Celtic should receive a warm reception from the fans. The last time Newcastle played Celtic was in 2007 when the Hoops came to St James’ Park. The Magpies, managed by Sam Allardyce, beat Celtic 4-1 thanks to goals from Obafemi Martins, James Milner and a brace from Albert Luque.

This time, it will be Howe’s Newcastle taking on Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic, but there could be a Newcastle player on the opposition, according to reports.

Celtic want Martin Dubravka after bailing out of a deal for him last summer. However, there is speculation over whether he would play every week after Kasper Schmeichel was handed a new deal to stay at the club for another year.

Elsewhere, Newcastle watched Celtic’s Nicholas Kuhn in February, with sporting director Paul Mitchell keen to sign a right-winger for Howe to replace Miguel Almiron and provide another option in the position besides Jacob Murphy.
