Newcastle transfer news: West Ham bid for Lucas Paqueta

While Newcastle United fans get excited about Alexander Isak, another target in Lucas Paqueta could be moving elsewhere.

The Magpies have been linked with the Brazilian all year, with fans dreaming of Paqueta being reunited with good friend Bruno Guimaraes.

It was recently rumoured that Newcastle would move for the 24-year-old if they couldn’t sign James Maddison, with Foot Mercato stating that the Toon owners would be willing to pay between £38million and £42million.

Newcastle are going to pay even more than that for Isak. He’s on the brink of a £59million move to St James’ Park.

But while Eddie Howe prepares to welcome the Swedish striker, Paqueta could soon become an opponent.

West Ham make £33.7million bid for Paqueta

According to the Athletic, West Ham are in talks to sign Paqueta from Lyon. They report that the Hammers have offered £33.7million for the Brazil international.

Whether that’s enough to bring him to the London Stadium remains to be seen, but talks over the fee and personal terms are reportedly progressing.

It’s been claimed by Sky Sports that Paqueta’s agent is in London to negotiate a deal.

Disappointing if Newcastle miss out on Paqueta to another PL team

While talk of Paqueta coming to Newcastle has always been fanciful, the rumours and murmurs have continued throughout the summer.

With deadline day looming and limited progress over attacking arrivals, there remained hope that the former AC Milan ace could move to the North East.

However, it’s always felt like an outside bet. The fans are desperate for it, but maybe the club isn’t.

Regardless, it would be really disappointing to see Paqueta join another Premier League club this summer. A move to West Ham would be especially excruciating, as they are a team we are trying to compete with.

Bruno has spoke about his desire to see Paqueta join Newcastle, and so has Joelinton. But the dream Toon signing is in talks over a move elsewhere, and could soon be playing against the Magpies rather than for them.
