Newcastle United have reportedly had an offer accepted to sign Alexander Isak.
That’s according to Diario Vasco, who state that Real Sociedad are going to sell the Swedish forward for a huge amount of money.
Isak will reportedly become Newcastle’s new record signing. Diario Vasco state that the Magpies’ bid is worth an initial £59million. That’s £19million more than what the club paid for Joelinton in 2019.
The fee could rise even further, as the deal reportedly includes another £4million worth of add-ons. On top of that, Real Sociedad will have a 10% sell-on clause included in the deal.
This claim comes very out of the blue, but hopefully it is reliable. Diario Vasco are a Basque newspaper who cover the goings on at Real Sociedad daily. That makes it sound more credible, and if so it is a statement of intent by the Toon owners.
Newcastle have wanted to sign Isak all summer
Talk of interest in the 22-year-old isn’t new. He’s been linked all summer. It was previously claimed that the club were willing to break the bank to sign him, but that he then proved to be too expensive.
Something must have changed, as it now seems that Newcastle are going to spend a huge amount of money on a player who has been linked with a move to the Premier League for a long time.
It’s a very exciting deal, as Isak has the attacking capabilities that we desperately need. In the words of Gary Lineker, he’s an ‘exceptional talent‘.
This is the statement signing fans have been waiting for this summer. So far our approach has been measured and sensible, with Sven Botman being the only big addition.
But Isak looks like he could on his way to St James’ Park. The Toon owners are really flexing their financial muscles, and are going to break the club’s transfer record for the first time under their ownership.
Former Magpies midfielder Darren Ambrose recently said that Newcastle should make Isak their statement signing, and it looks like that could be about to happen.
We await confirmation from the English media, but the noises coming out of Spain are very promising. Newcastle could be about to make a transfer breakthrough, and it’s a huge one.
